We are seeking a well-rounded, experienced

Sous Chef

to join the team at our upmarket restaurant located in Cape Town's vibrant City Centre. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership, creativity, and consistency in maintaining high culinary standards, while working closely with the Head Chef and management team.

Key Responsibilities



Assist in managing all kitchen departments and daily operations. Ensure effective communication and coordination between Back of House (BOH) and Front of House (FOH) teams. Delegate tasks and oversee daily food preparation and kitchen duties. Maintain high-quality standards for food preparation, presentation, and taste. Execute tasks as directed by the Head Chef or Executive Chef. Work across all kitchen sections including hot, cold, and pastry. Collaborate with the Head Chef on menu planning, recipe development, and production forecasts. Inspect raw and cooked food quality to ensure consistency and compliance with restaurant standards. Monitor guest satisfaction and ensure exceptional service and food quality. Participate in stock control: ordering, receiving, stock takes, par levels, and cost management. Maintain accurate and up-to-date recipe cards, costings, and production methods. Enforce hygiene, sanitation, and food safety standards throughout the kitchen. Uphold proper food storage, stock rotation (FIFO), and waste management practices. Operate and maintain all kitchen equipment and report issues promptly. Provide regular training, guidance, and motivation to junior kitchen staff. Collaborate with management on event preparation and special functions. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Set an example in cleanliness, professionalism, and teamwork. Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the Head Chef or Executive Chef.

Requirements



2-3 years' experience

in a similar Sous Chef role within an upmarket or fine dining establishment. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Solid understanding of BOH operations, including inventory control and cost management. Proven experience across hot, cold, and pastry sections. Creativity and innovation in recipe development and menu design. In-depth knowledge of food safety standards and kitchen hygiene. Proficient in English (spoken and written). Must be able to work both day and night shifts. Able to

reliably commute

or willing to

relocate to Cape Town

before starting.
