JUNIOR SCIENTIST

Duration: 18-months Contract

The SAMRC's HIV and other Infectious Diseases Research Unit requires a suitably qualified and experienced Junior Scientist. The Junior Scientist is required to assist with coordinating a qualitative research study focused on maternal and child health in KwaZulu-Natal at the RK Khan clinical trial site. The Junior Scientist will be involved in qualitative sampling and participant recruitment and enrolment, schedule interview appointments with the participants, organize study logistics for data collection activities and conduct in-depth interviews. The incumbent will conduct focus group discussions and assist with interview summaries, analysis and report writing and provide presentations and co-authoring conference abstracts and study publications.

Responsibilities:

Conduct purposeful sampling and coordinate participant recruitment and enrolment.

Schedule interview appointments with the participants.

Update interview Schedule and Attendance register.

Organize study logistics for data collection activities.

Print study documents for field activities.

File study documents (ICFs)

Assist with in-depth interviews and focus group discussions.

Assist with interview summaries, analysis and report writing.

Responsible for leading data collection activities in the absents of the PI.

Tracking participants.

Ordering study supplies and equipment on procurement system.

Keeping records of study assets and supplies (including participants vouchers)

Presentation at internal meetings/journal clubs.

Presentation to stakeholders.

Co-authoring conference abstracts and study publications.

Core Requirements:

. 4-year tertiary qualification in Social Science/ Health Sciences or similar qualification or higher

. 2 xe2x80x93 3 years Research experience in maternal and child health field or a clinical trial research setting

. 2-year work experience or training in qualitative research protocol writing and data collection, and analysis.

. Must have evidence of contribution to scientific publications as co-author.

. Study administrative experience.

Advantageous:

. Completion of one year of Masters degree course work or if the masters is by thesis, completion of the proposal and data collection.

A salary in the region of R377 223 per annum, cost-to-company.

SAMRC
