The Junior Research Technician assists with technical projects across the Institute; these include the following aspects of project management. Research planning and Initiation Project Finances. Project technical risk management.

Research Support, Diagnostics and Other Services




The Junior Research Technician assists with conducting technical projects. These activities include the following activities. Adoption, management, and use. Translation. Commercialisation.

Technology Transfer




The Junior Research Technician assists with technology transfer initiatives in the institution; these are as follows. Intellectual Property Assessment. Prototype Development. Testing and Validation.

Scientific Status Requirements




assisting with scientific research; these include the following activities. Innovation and Commercialisation. Project / Programme impact.

Safety, health, and Environment




The Junior Research Technician is responsible for assisting with safety, health and environment compliance and standards, these include the following activities. Regulatory Compliance. Lab safety. Hazardous material disposal.

Human Capital Development




The Junior Research Technician is responsible for Human capacity development, which includes. Self and continuous learning. Assists in projects or performs routine activities under supervision. Coordinating of work activities and supervises allocated HR resources if applicable. Adheres to financial administrative controls. Adheres to work plans Utilises equipment and materials Provides research support, diagnostics, and other services. Collects and captures data under supervision Provides verbal/written feedback on work activities Adheres to quality standards Assists in the preparation for presentations Assists in optimising of equipment and/or processes and/or systems under Assists with basic activities related to research services Is aware of Intellectual Property opportunities Assists in training junior staff.


Grade 12 (or equivalent) with 6 years relevant experience in Aquaculture, Animal Sciences, Biology. 2 years practical experience and technical knowledge of rearing and managing freshwater fish Verbal and written communication skills. Experience in management of large data sets. Knowledge on safety standards as prescribed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
