Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic, hard-working and committed individual to conduct financial analysis, financial research and thought leadership in competition policy development; ensuring the application of sound financial principles in all work performed.

(A starting annual total cost to company package of R 938 471.62 negotiable commensurate with experience)

Please note that the position is available on a five-year fixed term contract.

The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include:

Assist with the identification of issues to be assessed in an investigation and the evidence required to analyse those issues. Assist with the development of information requests and survey instruments to gather the required evidence, including follow up requests. Assist with research to aid the team's understanding of the market dynamics and business models in a given market. Analyse financial data for competition investigations, focusing on market conduct, mergers, and potential anti-competitive practices Provide assistance into the compilation of expert reports to inform The Tribunal, based on a review of the facts of the case and additional information gathered to support an economically defensible recommendation. Report to the Principal Analyst or Senior Analyst on the progress and outcomes of research and investigations, including the economic underpinnings of competition issues. Contribute to the provision of the theoretical and intellectual platform for the effective implementation of the Competition Act.

We are looking for a dynamic, hardworking and a committed individual who meets the following requirements:

Honours Degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting or Management Accounting. Masters or Membership of a recognised professional body (SAICA, CFA, CIMA or ACCA) added advantage. A minimum of 2 - 3 years related work experience. Additionally, working experience in competition economics will be an advantage. Specific experience in cost accounting/management or regulatory financial analysis will be an added advantage Strong analytical skills and experience in managing research are essential. Knowledge and understanding of the purpose and objectives of the Competition Act, the Commission and the South African economy is highly recommended. Knowledge of policy and legislative environment Strong project management / case management skills.

Other considerations:

Practical work exposure to area of expertise will be further considered to balance against other requirements.
