Duties/Pligte
As a Junior Engineer at The Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies (CRSES) at Stellenbosch University (SU), the incumbent will be responsible for performing engineering analysis and modelling related to the integration of renewable energy sources into power grids. The role involves using power system simulation tools, modelling renewable energy resources, analysing grid performance, and presenting results in various formats. The engineer will contribute to technical report writing, academic publications, presentation, and visual communication of data. Additionally, the role includes participation in workshops and supporting project activities.Performing grid modelling and simulation using DIgSILENT PowerFactory Conducting: + Steady-state power flow analysis; + Power system stability analysis;
+ Probabilistic power system analysis;
+ Custom scripting using Python in PowerFactory.
Developing and evaluating solar PV system designs. Using MATLAB Simulink for dynamic system simulations. Running electromagnetic simulations using Ansys Maxwell. Performing performance and financial analysis of renewable systems using SAM software. Writing technical reports, research papers, and documentation. Preparing presentations and data visualisations for workshops and meetings. Programming in Python, Java, and/or C for modelling and analysis tasks. Using Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and analysis. Participating in academic writing and publishing. Supporting and mentoring younger engineers and interns. Communicating fluently in English during professional interactions.


As 'n Junior Ingenieur by die Sentrum vir Hernubaare en Volhoubare Energiewetenskappe (CRSES) by die Universiteit Stellenbosch (US) sal die posbekleer verantwoordelik wees vir ingenieursanalise en -modellering rakende die integrasie van hernubare energiebronne in kragnetwerke. Die rol behels die gebruik van kragnetwerk-simulasie-instrumente, modellering van hernubare energiehulpbronne, ontleding van netwerkprestasie, en die aanbieding van resultate in verskeie formate. Die ingenieur sal bydra tot die skryf van tegniese verslae, akademiese publikasies, aanbiedings, en die visuele kommunikasie van data. Voer kragnetwerkmodellering en -simulasie met DIgSILENT PowerFactory uit. Voer die volgende uit: + Bestendige-toestand kragvloei-analise; + Kragstelsel-stabiliteitsanalise;
+ Waarskynlikheidskragstelsel-analise;
+ Pasgemaakte skripprogrammering met Python in PowerFactory.
Ontwikkel en evalueer son-PV stelsels. Gebruik MATLAB Simulink vir dinamiese stelselsimulasies. Doen elektromagnetiese simulasies met Ansys Maxwell. Voer prestasie- en finansiele ontleding van hernubarestelsels uit met SAM-sagteware. Skryf tegniese verslae, navorsingsartikels, en dokumentasie. Voorbereiding van aanbiedings en datavisualiserings vir werksessies en vergaderings. Programmeer in Python, Java, en/of C vir modellering en ontledingstake. Gebruik Microsoft Office-instrumente (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) vir verslagdoening en analise. Deelname aan akademiese skryfwerk en publikasies. Ondersteun en mentor jonger ingenieurs en interns. Kommunikeer vlot in Engels tydens professionele interaksies.



Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
Master's degree in electrical engineering with a speciality in renewable energy. At least two years' experience in renewable energy resource modelling and geospatial modelling. At least one year's work experience in power system modelling of renewable energy integration. Proficiency in power system analysis tools, particularly DIgSILENT PowerFactory. Competent in Python coding, with experience in automation and scripting for engineering applications. Competence in simulation tools such as MATLAB Simulink and Ansys Maxwell. Experience with solar PV system design and SAM (System Advisor Model) software. The ability to work with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint at a professional level. Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
Meestersgraad in elektriese ingenieurswese, met spesialisasie in hernubare energie. Minstens twee jaar se ervaring in hernubare energiehulpbronmodellering en geospatiale modellering. Minstens een jaar se praktiese ervaring in kragnetwerkmodellering van hernubare energie-integrasie. Gevorderde kennis van kragnetwerk-analise-instrumente, veral DIgSILENT PowerFactory. Sterk bevoegdheid in Python-programmering, met inbegrip van outomatisering en skripontwikkeling vir ingenieursdoeleindes. Ervaring met simulasie-instrumente soos MATLAB Simulink en Ansys Maxwell. Bewese ervaring in son-PV stelselontwerp en die gebruik van SAM (System Advisor Model) sagteware. Die vermoe om op `n professionele vlak met Microsoft Excel, Word en PowerPoint te werk. Uitstekende mondelinge en skriftelike kommunikasievaardighede in Engels.
