In collaboration with Senior and Midweight Digital Designers (and, where relevant, our Multimedia team) the Junior Digital Designer works to strengthen visual consistency for partner universities and the OES brand. They support ongoing efforts to build internal capacity, by contributing to internal training programs and the development of graphic templates for use by the Learning Design team.

In addition to design development, this role provides advice and support to learning designers on the best practice use of digital assets. By establishing strong working relationships with Learning Design, the role encourages collaboration and co-creation--bringing pedagogically sound design ideas to life.

Sitting within the Digital Learning Specialist team, the Junior Digital Designer helps to ensure a standard of quality and innovation in design that reflects current industry norms. Along with the broader team of Digital Designers, the role contributes meaningfully to our organisation's efforts to reimagine online learning.

Key Responsibilities:

The key contribution of the Junior Digital Designer is to creatively execute visual design elements to support the Learning Design team. Specifically, this role is responsible for:

The production and refinement of student-facing digital design assets that follow brand guidelines, including but not limited to, decorative and informative graphics, interactive UI design and animation packages to enhance, extend, or augment OES learning products. Working with OES learning design staff to identify and explore opportunities to develop new design-centred experiences. Digital delivery of design outcomes, including the embedding of final assets into Learning Management Systems (LMS) using basic HTML code. Working with the Lead Digital Learning Specialist and Senior Digital Designer to contribute to production planning and coordination; ensuring schedules and processes are followed to support high quality stakeholder communications and timely delivery of assets. Maintaining and, where possible, strengthening templates, guidelines and training materials for the creation of images and interactives, with a view to promoting rapid deployment of reusable assets. This includes content and platform agnostic graphic templates for use by OES learning design staff. Working with Learning Designers to define and develop content layout and patterns that can be configured and reused for purposeful design of learning experiences. Working with all Digital Learning Specialists to ensure consistent and secure storage and access of design resources, including internal OES content and templates. Pursuing creative and innovative digital design solutions, demonstrating an awareness of current trends and industry standards. Communicating passion and enthusiasm for the role of digital design in learning design work.

What does success look like?

Supporting and improving processes for the internal development of industry-standard digital design deliverables, which reflect current best practice. Empowering the learning design team and supporting efforts to build this team's capacity to engage with design in a purposeful way. Providing solid, informed guidance on strategies, approaches, and processes used to transform static online learning content into engaging design-centric solutions. Producing a successful balance of visual and interactive objects which enshrine the fundamental design values of the OES approach to online learning. Consolidating our market position as leaders and innovators that value consistency, purpose, and rigor. Conceptualising and crafting designs based on your intelligent, strategy-led and concept-driven big ideas. A strong commitment to design consistency and judgement with a keen eye for light, colour, value, form, typography and composition that will lift OES learning materials visual experiences (in line with our design manifesto). Being enthusiastic and unwavering in both your attention to detail and your dedication to getting projects finished on time, without sacrificing standards of quality and creativity. Giving, receiving, and applying constructive feedback to both digital designers and learning designers--maintaining a high level of consistency across branding and promoting accessibility.

Requirements

Experience in designing for online, learner-centered, flexible education. Experience in commercial, industry, or academic creative production environments, with demonstrable competencies working with design technologies (including, but not limited to the Adobe Creative Suite). Experience in conceptualising, designing and storyboarding interactive web experiences (ideally in online education). Demonstrated high standard of interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment. An appropriate post graduate qualification in multimedia/graphic design (experience in educational environments would be highly regarded). Confidence to partner with internal stakeholders and communicate the visual standards expected of OES products.
