Job Summary MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

  • Tertiary qualification in agriculture
  • Additional certifications are advantageous
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Up to date Police clearance
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
  • Experience in cropping & Livestock operations, with focus on wheat, soya and maize & commercial cattle production
  • Ability to oversee and implement various programs, which promote improved production efficiency and productivity
  • Familiarity with industry practices and professional standards

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
  • Implementing cropping programs, which promote sustainability and consistent improvements in soil fertility and health
  • Implementing a sound crop rotation strategy
  • Managing planting, spraying and fertilizing programs, in consultation with senior management and external consultants
  • Planning the procurement of required inputs, in advance of the next cropping season
  • Managing cropping and livestock operations according to set budgets
  • Ensuring the correct implementation of irrigation, to promote maximized yields and optimized use of resources
  • Establishment and management of pastures
  • Production of fodder such as silage and hay
  • Installation of new infrastructure
  • Provide a weekly report to senior management
  • Work closely with our procurement and logistics team, to ensure sustainable stock levels of all required items and inputs
  • Maintenance of infrastructure and equipment
  • Production of compost and other related organic inputs
  • Planning and implementing pre and post season equipment
  • Monitoring usage and service records of equipment
  • Monitoring and recording usage of chemicals, fertilisers and other inputs
  • Utilise modern technology to ensure precision and maximise efficiency
  • Managing and implementing a strip-grazing program
  • Tagging, weighing and recording cattle births
  • Branding, vaccinating and dipping cattle
  • Producing various feed rations and licks for cattle and wildlife
  • Implementing the herd management program - in consultation with senior management and external consultants
  • Implementing expansion projects in consultation with senior management
  • Maintaining up to date records for all livestock
