Duties/Pligte

Primary responsibilities include the following:

Establishing values-driven management in the residential and commuter student communities. Thinking critically, innovate and problem-solve creatively in an ever-evolving commuter student environment. Driving a process, in conjunction with the cluster and the CSLL, to evaluate the commuter student community model at the Tygerberg campus. Integrating students' academic and out-of-class living environments. Promoting healthy and inclusive community life in the residential and commuter student communities, and encouraging healthy relationships with other residences. Developing residential and commuter student leadership, supervising leaders and providing them with guidance and mentorship. Governing and managing the residential and commuter student communities effectively. Being available for interaction and consultation with students. Enhancing the cluster system in the residential and commuter student communities and the cluster. Managing challenges and crises. Participating in continuous training for resident and visiting heads. Managing the liquor licence of the residential and commuter student communities and monitoring alcohol consumption. Providing financial and administrative support to the Cluster Education Coordinator.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
A relevant tertiary qualification at least at NQF level 6. Compassion and a positive attitude towards students. At least two years' relevant experience in student development. Proven ability, compassion and a positive attitude towards the complexity of students in a student community. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, with the demonstrated ability to innovate and adapt to an ever-evolving environment. Verbal and written proficiency in English and another official South African language, and the ability to function in a multilingual environment. The skill to facilitate a student community to be values-driven. The ability to provide thought leadership and guide students through a process of change. The proven ability to make positive contributions as part of a team. The ability to manage and resolve conflict situations. Interest in the establishment of learning and living communities on campus. Knowledge of basic management principles. The ability to integrate the learning and living environment of students in order to establish communities of listening, living and learning.



Recommendation/Aanbeveling
A strong academic profile. Understanding of and experience in values-driven management. Experience working with commuter students and/or a cluster system in higher education. Experience of residence management. Experience of diversity management. Basic knowledge of student affairs. Basic understanding of life coaching and mentoring. Knowledge regarding the cluster system. Attendance of at least one workshop in an area related to student development (attendance certificate required). * Proven participation in co-curricular programmes.
