The Junior Chef / Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality, hygienic, healthy meals for the executive team, supporting the New Product Development (NPD) team with food sample preparations, and catering for internal meetings and training sessions. The role demands strict adherence to food safety regulations and hygiene standards at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
Executive Catering:
Plan and prepare daily lunches for the executive team that are nutritious, well-presented, and meet dietary requirements.
Maintain strict hygiene and food safety practices in the preparation, storage, and serving of meals.
Ensure all ingredients are stored, handled, and used in accordance with HACCP and relevant food safety guidelines.
Internal Event & Meeting Catering:
Prepare food and refreshments for internal meetings, training sessions, and special events, ensuring compliance with food safety and allergen management protocols.
Manage preparation for larger groups without compromising food quality or hygiene.
Label all items clearly and maintain safe food temperatures during service.
New Product Development (NPD) Support:
Assist with preparing food samples using company spice blends and formulations for internal tastings and product development sessions.
Ensure all sample preparation areas and tools are sanitized and food-safe before use.
Follow precise recipes and safety standards to ensure product samples meet testing and presentation requirements.
Kitchen Management & Compliance:
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitized kitchen at all times.
Monitor and record food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and food handling practices as per internal policies and legal requirements.
Conduct regular checks to ensure kitchen equipment is in safe, working condition and report any issues promptly.
Ensure all work complies with the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act and all relevant South African food safety legislation.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
Certificate or Diploma in Culinary Arts, Hospitality, or Food Safety preferred.
1-2 years of experience in a professional kitchen or catering environment.
Familiarity with HACCP and general food safety compliance.
Experience preparing meals for groups and assisting in food production or development settings is advantageous.
Skills & Competencies:
Excellent food preparation and cooking skills.
Strong working knowledge of food hygiene, safety, and allergen awareness.
Attention to detail and consistency in recipe execution.
Ability to multitask and manage time effectively, especially when handling multiple service needs.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, innovation-focused environment.
