Job Description


Purpose of the Job:

To provide support to the Retirement Funds Supervision Division in their work by providing guidance on the manner in which to deal with specific cases; by providing input into the establishment, maintenance and monitoring of trustee training and qualifications and responsible for drafting and oversight of good governance principles and standards for funds. The person appointed to the position will report to the Manager.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Research local and international trends relating to good corporate governance;
  • Determine and evaluate fundsxe2x80x99 compliance with the Treating Customers Fairly principles;
  • Responsible for coordinating and arranging workshops for retirement fund trustees;
  • Responsible for matters pertaining to the Trustee Training Toolkit
  • Research and evaluate issues relevant to fund governance and conduct of trustees of retirement funds;
  • Provide general legal support to the departments within the Retirement Funds Supervision Division;
  • Draft responses to Default Regulation Exemptions and Extensions
  • Propose and draft Guidance Notices and Conduct Standards in terms of the FSRA;
  • Provide input into the establishment, maintenance and monitoring of trustee training and qualifications (where applicable);
  • Assist the Retirement Funds Supervision Division with the implementation of appropriate enforcement actions provided for in Chapter 10 of the FSRA.
Other Key Competencies:

The candidates must demonstrate the following skills and attributes: An excellent command of both spoken and written English and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and computerised workflow systems. Excellent skills in the investigation of facts and circumstances, the recordal of all relevant matters, the collection, organisation and protection of evidence that may be required for the purposes of regulatory action, legal research and factual analysis and writing and other forms of communication. A commitment to improving outcomes for members of retirement funds and their beneficiaries and the energy, initiative, emotional intelligence and inter-personal skills required for the purpose. Willingness to work both independently and in a team and to learn from and transfer knowledge and skills to colleagues; and to work after hours. The candidate must be able to plan independently and be deadline driven.
