Description


The main function of this role is to assist with new, as well as renovation projects within the NPD department.



Responsibilities

Research

Research and compare new ingredients/products. Keep up to date with ingredient and product developments in the industry. Keep up to date with changes to legislation within the food industry.

New Product Development/Renovation

Assist with the formulation/modification of products according to defined brief. Source ingredients where required. Confirm ingredient/product adherence to relevant food legislation requirements. Confirm product adherence to required endorsements (CANSA, HSFSA, Kosher, Halaal) and claims. Coordinate sensory analysis of new formulations. Prepare cost estimations of ingredients and end products. Assist in label development according to legislative requirements. Assist the QC department as & when required to ensure allergen & risk assessment information is maintained and up to date.

Lab Trials

Design & document lab trial process and results. Ensure samples are allocated to internal and relevant external labs for analysis where required. Internal quality analysis of samples produced. Troubleshoot and carry out verifications of lab batches.

Production Trials

Design and arrange production trials where applicable. Arrange correct labelling and allocation of product samples packed during trials. Ensure samples are allocated to internal and relevant external labs for analysis where required.

Product administration

Create initial product specification and test reports. Create, maintain and update all PIFs (Product Information Files) for new ingredients/products. Create NPD product specifications. Ensure that all product information as required by R146 (Regulations Relating to the Labelling and Advertising of Foodstuffs (R.146/2010 as amended)) is correct and available upon request. Complete CANSA & HSFSA endorsement applications. Arrange for invoices, purchase orders and payments of approved transactions.

General

Assist with internal audits - quality. Ensure housekeeping standards in the NPD Lab is adhered to. Assist with ad hoc Commercial/NPD tasks and activities.

Health and Safety

Participate in safety forums created by SOILL for example safety meetings and safety talks. Follow-up on any activities assigned through safety meetings / committees / representatives. Report all safety incidents to the relevant people. Attend safety education and refresher programmes. Comply with safety policies and procedures at SOILL. Wear protective clothing (where applicable) at all times.


Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

A lab/science/food related qualification or experience within a similar role Valid South African driver's license Computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook) Science and math at Grade 12 level
