HOURS OF WORK- LOCUM POST 9 October - 9 December
07:30 xe2x80x93 14:30, Mondays to Thursdays, 07:30 xe2x80x93 13:30 on a Friday
Teacherxe2x80x99s meeting takes place every Wednesday from 14:30 xe2x80x93 16:00.
Planning and marking will need to be done at home.

SUBJECTS TO TEACH: English (3 groups), EMS (1 group), Art (1 group)

The Intermediate and Senior Phase classes include three multi-grade dual language groups: a Grade 4&5 group, a Grade 5&6 group, and a Grade 7 group.

Our client provides specialized development of the foundation skills necessary for learning in their school. This includes cognitive skills. The school can accommodate a maximum of 32 learners from Grades 2-7, with 8-10 learners per group, depending on Grade and Level of Support needed. In addition to the CAPS curriculum, learners receive daily cognitive and literacy development. The vision is for learners, over time, to turn around their learning challenges and improve academic performance so that they can return to regular schooling in the future.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning:

  • Create a safe and nurturing learning environment that stimulates positive learning and actively engages learners in the learning process.
  • To take on a leadership role in respect of Afrikaans and Content Subjects in the Intermediate and Senior Phases.
  • Design and deliver learning programs according to the CAPS curriculum, engaging in class teaching that will foster purposeful progression in learning.
  • Teach in a dual-language, multigrade context, as described above.
  • Understand, support, and effectively teach learners with a range of learning difficulties, differentiating learning to be relevant for each learnerxe2x80x99s cognitive, academic and literacy development levels.
  • Recognise that learning is an active process and be prepared to use a variety of strategies to meet the outcomes of the curriculum.
  • Enable learners to succeed and build their self-esteem, confidence and resilience.
  • Plan, coordinate, control, administer, evaluate and report on learnersxe2x80x99 academic progress.
  • Manage and utilize available Learning Resources and Technology in Teaching.
Learner Welfare:
  • Manage and support day-to-day behaviour and emotional development in line with the learner code of conduct and discipline policy, keeping records of incidents, observations and communication with parents.
  • Assist the School Principal to identify aspects that require special attention and assist in addressing them.
  • Assist the School Principal in overseeing learner counselling and guidance, discipline and the general welfare of all learners, including attending meetings with parents and partaking in setting, implementing and monitoring progress on Behaviour Plans.
Professional:
  • Coordinate and control all the academic activities of each subject taught.
  • To control and coordinate stock and equipment, which is used and required.
  • Read, understand and implement school policies.
  • Cooperate with colleagues of all grades to maintain a good teaching standard and progress among learners and to foster administrative efficiency within the school.
  • Participate in agreed school/educator appraisal processes to regularly review their professional practice with the aim of improving teaching, learning and management.
  • Contribute to the professional development of colleagues by sharing knowledge, ideas and resources.
  • Participate in school committees, school-based CPD and relevant external seminars and courses to contribute to and remain informed of current developments in educational thinking and update onexe2x80x99s professional views/standards.
  • Meet parents and discuss with them the conduct and progress of their children.
REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications:
  • Qualified Teacher (Intermediate / Senior Phase), SACE registered
  • Desirable: Remedial / Special Needs Qualification
Experience:
  • Minimum 3-5 years' teaching/tutoring experience at Intermediate / Senior Phase Level.
  • Desirable: experience teaching English and/or Maths, range of the Content Subjects
  • Desirable: experience teaching children with learning difficulties
Personal Skills / Knowledge:
  • A passion for teaching children who experience learning challenges
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in both English and Afrikaans
  • Good knowledge of the CAPS curriculum for English and/or Maths at Intermediate & Senior Phase Level
  • Good understanding of learning challenges and adapting teaching practices to address these
  • Deep understanding of emotional and behavioural development; positive teaching practices
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office & Internet
