Purpose of consultancy:



A regional AccessMod training was held in Nairobi, Kenya in June 2025. The training was a collaborative effort between UNFPA, WHO, UNICEF, and the University of Geneva GeoHealth group (UNIGE). The training is a response to the UNFPA Global Strategy for Reproductive, Maternal, and Newborn Health (RMNH) 2025-2030 and Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE), which emphasizes ensuring access to Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC) within a two-hour travel time.


The facilitators from the University of Geneva have shared a collection of training materials, including PowerPoint presentations, exercises, and references, which were used in a previous training on GIS and AccessMod. To facilitate future capacity building and empower in-country GIS experts and trainers, there is a need to consolidate these materials into a user-friendly, step-by-step guide and comprehensive training package.


The primary objective of this consultancy is to transform existing GIS and AccessMod training materials into a standardized, high-quality, and user-friendly training package. This package will be utilized by future GIS/AccessMod trainers to build the capacity of country-level GIS experts on the use of the AccessMod tool for health service accessibility modelling.



This effort supports the UNFPA Global Strategy for Reproductive, Maternal, and Newborn Health (RMNH) 2025-2030 and Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE), which emphasizes ensuring access to Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC) within a two-hour travel time. Scope of work:

The consultant will be responsible for the following key tasks:

Review and Analysis:

+ Conduct a thorough review of all existing training materials (PowerPoint slides, exercises, data files, references, training concept note and agenda etc.).
+ Review and conduct a comprehensive analysis of the existing training documents and source files.
+ Identify and categorize the content, noting gaps, redundancies, and areas for improvement.
+ Propose a logical structure and flow for the new training package, organizing the content into distinct modules or sessions.

Content Development and Enhancement:

+ Rewrite and reformat existing content to be clear, concise, and easy to understand.
+ Enhance visual elements on slides and other materials to improve engagement and learning.
+ Refine practical, hands-on exercises that are directly relevant to real modeling of access to Emergency Obstetric and Newborn (EmONC).

Creation of Training Components:

Facilitator's Guide:

Develop a detailed guide for trainers, including session plans, learning objectives, suggested time allocations, discussion points, and answers to exercises.

Participant Workbook:

Create a workbook for trainees with key concepts, space for notes, structured exercises and reference materials.

Presentation Slides:

Finalize and polish the PowerPoint presentations for each module, ensuring a consistent and professional design.

Data and Exercise Files:

Organize and label all necessary data and files required for the practical exercises.

Finalization:

+ Consolidate all components into a single, comprehensive training package.
+ Ensure all materials are professionally formatted, clearly labeled, and ready for immediate use.
Submit all final deliverables in a Word format.

Duration and working schedule:


The consultancy will last for 30 days from the 1st of October till the 15 th of December.

Inception Report:

A brief report outlining the proposed structure and work plan for the training package (18 th of September).

Draft Training Package:

A full draft of all components (Facilitator's Guide, Participant Workbook, Presentation Slides) for review and feedback (10 th of October).

Final Training Package:

The complete, finalized, and user-friendly training package, incorporating all feedback (15 th of November). This will include: + A comprehensive Facilitator's Guide (PDF).
+ A complete Participant Workbook (PDF).
+ A full set of Presentation Slides (PowerPoint).
A folder containing all data and exercise files.

Monitoring and progress control, including reporting requirements, periodicity format and deadline:



The consultant will report to the Integrated Sexual Reproductive Health Unit/ Maternal Health Unit and will provide regular updates on progress as agreed upon during the inception phase.



The consultant will provide email-written updates alongside draft deliverables.





Supervisory arrangements:


The consultant will work under the supervision of the Health System Specialist at UNFPA ESARO.



Expected travel:



During technical consultation meetings, the consultant's travel (if required) and daily subsistence will be covered by UNFPA ESARO
