The University of Venda in partnership with the Department of Science and Innovation and the Technology Innovation Agency need to fill five (5) positions of Innovation Champions. The Innovation Champions will be placed at the University of Venda, Vhembe District Municipality and Collins Chabane, Makhado and Musina Local Municipalities.

Details of the positions are as follows:

Department: Institute for Rural Development (IRD), University of Venda (UNIVEN)

Position: Innovation Champion for Local Economic Development (5x positions)

Duration of Contract: Two years, renewable annually based on results of performance evaluation.

Requirements: Applicants for this position should have a minimum of at least a Bachelor's degree in the Sciences, Local Economic Development, Economics, Rural Development, Entrepreneurship, Business Studies, Innovation Studies, Agribusiness Management or other fields of Agriculture.

Recruitment: Considering the nature of the work, the Innovation Champions will be recruited per Municipality with preference given to residents of Collins Chabane, Makhado, Musina and Thulamela Local Municipalities.

Duties: Successful applicants will be placed in Municipalities within Vhembe District and at the University of Venda's Institute for Rural Development to perform the following duties:

• Stakeholder relations building and management
• Developing viable relationships between host Municipalities/UNIVEN and diverse institutions in the National System of Innovation; and
• Liaising regularly with peers, municipal personnel, university staff and students on innovation for local economic development project matters.
• Innovation mapping and promotion
• Providing support to Municipalities in identifying and incorporating innovation into LED practice;
• Introducing/deploying innovation tools into LED work; and
• Linking Municipalities and the University with potential sources of resources for innovation activities.
• Project management and coordination
• Coordinating the project, in collaboration with the Secretariat; and
• Writing regular reports, coupled with maintaining up-to-date records.

Remuneration: The Innovation Champions will receive Eight Thousand and Five Hundred Rands (R8 500.00) per month each.
