We have a meaningful on-site (with some hybrid flexibility) for a passionate Junior-Mid In-house Copywriter to work alongside the donor relations department at a renowned medical NPO based in Cape Town.
We're looking for a dynamic Copywriter to develop and execute emotive and impactful content strategies that align with this important NPO's vision, mission and values.
This role calls for a thoughtful, emotionally intelligent Copywriter who understands the responsibility that comes with telling real stories, in real places, for a cause that truly matters. Working closely with the Donor Relations team, you will play a key role in shaping content that builds trust, deepens connection, and drives meaningful donor engagement across multiple platforms.
Your work will sit at the heart of fundraising effectiveness - from retaining long-standing supporters to inspiring new donors through carefully considered, purpose-led storytelling. This is a hands-on, people-facing role that requires sensitivity, curiosity, and the ability to translate complex, often emotional moments into clear, compelling content that honours patients, families, and medical professionals alike.
You will spend time within the related healthcare facilities, engaging directly with staff, patients, and parents to uncover authentic stories of impact. Alongside strategic planning and execution, you will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, contribute to brand growth, and ensure every piece of content reflects their values, integrity, and commitment to care.
Responsibilities

  • Content Strategy: Develop a content strategy that supports the organisation's objectives and resonates with target audiences, with an in-depth understanding of the organisational strategy and donor segments.
  • Brand Voice: Maintain the brand's voice, ensuring professionalism and consistency across all written content.
  • Fundraising and marketing support: Contribute to development of fundraising ideas, marketing concepts, and refinement of messaging identifying opportunities and solving problems.
  • Storytelling & engagement.
  • Copy development: Develop creative, persuasive and engaging copy for all fundraising and marketing purposes- including proposals, reports, letters, website content, social media posts, email campaigns, print materials, and advertisements. Also transform one content piece into a variety of formats.
  • Editing and Proofreading: Must ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to organisational standards and guidelines
  • Collaboration: Brief and assist external Designer, marketing and digital agencies with content.
  • Market & Trend analysis: Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in copywriting and content marketing.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor the performance of content and adjust strategies based on data insights
  • Project Manage: Manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have/be:
  • A Degree in English, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a copywriter, preferably in a fundraising or healthcare environment.
  • Experience developing content strategies and writing for various platforms (digital and print).
  • Must be highly skilled in MS Office until advanced (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • WordPress knowledge and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience with a proven track record of producing writing that achieves successful outcomes aligned with its purpose.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and compelling copy that drives engagement and donations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Strong understanding of content marketing principles and best practices
  • Strong ability in conceptual and visual thinking.
  • Creative out-of-the-box thinking - displaying innovative ways of working.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to create concise briefs for agencies and designers.
  • Passionate about the cause and able to work with sensitive content.
  • Display of personal values that are aligned with the values of the NPO (dynamism, kindness, collaboration, accountability & integrity).
  • High level communications and people skills: able to work with people from different environments
  • Ability to adjust to any kind of situation and to display emotional resilience in stressful situations.
  • Has a clear vision and desire for personal and professional growth.
  • Self-motivated to be in this role, constantly researching and developing new ideas and keeping up with technology.
  • Flexibility, adaptability and willingness to take on a wide range of tasks.
