Job Decription




We are looking to employ an HR officer with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. The HR officer is expected to be knowledgeable with employment legislation and possess strategic and commercial insight to the labour process. He or she must be able to negotiate with diplomacy.


A HR Officer function in an organisation is responsible for ensuring that a workforce is able to perform optimally, ensuring that there sufficient people are recruited, retained, trained and supported to fulfil the organisation's goals and commitments. As such, HR's remit includes health and safety, recruitment, training, payroll and more.


To ensure success, an HR officer should display excellent organizational skills, good time-management skills, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. A top HR officer should possess remarkable conflict management and decision-making skills to ensure employee compliance.


Ultimately, you should be able to ensure our HR department supports our employees while conforming to labour laws.

Main functions will include:




Management of employee information and personnel file creation and maintenance. Provide information to employees on HR policies and procedures, including Employment Equity, anti-discrimination and skills development Implementation of all Acts pertaining to the regulation of employment relations LRA, SDA, EE, BCEA etc. Ensure the maintenance of employment operations including recruitment, job descriptions, remuneration, selection processes, induction processes and exit interviews. Assist the HR Department with the maintenance and development of HR procedures and policies. Ensure that all staff members are aware of the Company procedures regulations and processes, and that employees have access to the Faculty Handbook when needed. Recruitment. Training: keeping records of training file and track training on an ongoing basis; Submit WSP and ATR to SETA. Leave: Assist with leave administration. Pay Space: Supporting staff with ESS queries and loading leave applications employees, Preparing monthly tea party. Compiling weekly payroll inputs. Work with the Head of HR to guide and advise management and employees, through all aspects of the employee life cycle to include absence management, investigations, discipline, grievance, capability, in accordance with the consistent application of college policies and procedures and compliance with employment law and best practice. Ensuring meticulous implementation of payroll and benefits administration. Preparing job descriptions, advertising vacant positions, and managing the employment process. Overseeing the health and safety of all employees. Ensuring that all employees are organized and satisfied in their work environment. Assist the HR Manager with advising line managers and other employees on employment law and the employer's own employment policies and procedures negotiating salaries, contracts, working conditions and redundancy packages with staff and trade union representatives. Work with management to ensure all information (eg jobs, hours, etc) are up to date.

Requirements and skills




Certification in human resources (Diploma), management or similar. The ability to keep sensitive information confidential. Must be approachable and helpful. Strong critical thinking skills. Good ethical judgment. Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in human resources. Labour Relations certification - may be advantageous. Experience as a Skills Development Facilitator - may be advantageous. Able to engage in meaningful negotiation and resolution. Knowledge of employment legislation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Protecting the interests of all employees. Full understanding of HR functions and best practices.
