Human Resource Manager

A well-established and respected winery with a proud heritage and a growing presence across their vineyard, cellar, and hospitality operations is looking to appoint a Human Resource Manager to take the lead on all people-related matters within the business. This role calls for a strategic and hands-on HR professional who is comfortable working across diverse teams -- from seasonal vineyard workers to permanent hospitality staff. Key focus areas include labour relations, workforce planning, payroll, policy development, Health & Safety compliance, and employee engagement. The successful candidate will play a key role in fostering a strong, values-driven culture while ensuring alignment with South African labour legislation. This role reports directly to the board on a quarterly basis.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR strategy aligned with business objectives.
  • Lead workforce planning, recruitment, succession planning and retention for both permanent and seasonal teams.
  • Ensure compliance with South African labour laws (BCEA, LRA, OHSA, EE, POPIA).
  • Oversee performance management, training, and career development programmes.
  • Promote a positive organisational culture through employee engagement initiatives.
  • Manage employee relations, grievances, and disciplinary procedures fairly and effectively.
  • Partner with leadership to support change management and organisational growth.
  • Overseeing annual tax reporting and payroll; managing communication and grievances.
  • Oversee Health & Safety reporting across the estate, reporting to the Managing Director ensuring WEITA compliance.
  • Develop, implement and maintain HR policies in line with legislation.
Requirements
  • Degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Psychology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years' HR leadership experience, preferably within hospitality, wine, tourism, or agriculture.
  • Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation and HR best practices.
  • Strong Knowledge of Health & Safety reporting, WEITA and payroll systems.
  • Proven experience managing both large hospitality teams and seasonal workforce needs.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution.
  • Excellent understanding, navigation and usage of all Microsoft word applications, Adobe, Sage payroll software, BVPD compliance software, ERS Biometrics, e-filing.
