We are looking for an experienced Health Nurse / OH&S Officer for a Renowned Company in Port Elizabeth.
Purpose of Position:
To ensure a quality Occupational Health Service is rendered to establish physical, psychological and social well-being of employees in a safe working environment.
Requirements:
Certificate/Diploma in Health Nursing
Certificate in audiometry, spirometry, pharmacology (Optional)
3-4 yearsxe2x80x99 experience in an occupational health clinic/facility
Registration with South African Nursing Council
Registration with either DENOSA (Democratic Nurses Association of South Africa) or SASOHN (South African Society of Occupational Health Nurses)
License to dispense medication (Negotiable)
Responsibilities and Duties:
Occupational Health
Conduct medical examinations as required (pre-placement, periodic surveillance, transfers, exits, specialised e.g. Fork truck drivers, working at heights etc.
Provide primary health care
Implement Occupational Health programs
Screening tests -Audiometric (EE working in noise zones) & Spirometry, and Vision
Carry out any other medical surveillance as may be required by the client/occupational health doctor from time to time
Primary Health Care
Symptomatic treatment of day to day minor illnesses
Monitoring and treatment of chronic illnesses
Treatment of minor injuries sustained at home
Identify employees with social problems and facilitate their treatment in line with company procedures
Emergency First Aid treatment and medical cases
Injuries on duty
Treatment of minor injuries
Emergency treatment of serious injuries on duty
Referral of serious injuries on duty for medical attention
First Aid
Replenishment of first aid boxes and kits in accordance with legislation
Co-ordinate and facilitate regular in-service training for first aiders
Health Education
Plan and implement a forma health education program
Identify health education resources
Safety & Hygiene
Participation on H&S safety committee meetings
Participation in Emergency Planning
Conduct regular health assessments
Participate in identifying occupational hazards
Conduct monthly inspections on ablutions, kitchen/canteen areas
Management and Administration
Organisation of daily clinic routine
Keeping records in accordance with legislation
Attendance of meetings
Collection of statistical data
Compilation of monthly professional reports
Medicine stock take, control and ordering
Administration of COIDA claims, and follow ups
Identify potential major hazards and causes
Health & Safety management / implementation of policies and procedures
Advise and support line management in corrective actions
