To lead and manage the procurement and supply chain function within the construction business, ensuring the cost-effective, timely, and ethical sourcing of materials, equipment, and services. The Head of Procurement will develop procurement strategies, negotiate contracts, build supplier relationships, and drive operational efficiency to support successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement Planning & Sourcing
Source and procure construction materials, plant, and services in line with project requirements.
Research suppliers, compare quotations, and ensure the best value for money.
Identify alternative suppliers and materials to mitigate risks and delays.
Tendering & Negotiation
Prepare and issue RFQs and RFPs, and tenders to suppliers and subcontractors.
Negotiate prices, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
Ensure contracts and purchase orders are completed accurately and on time.
Supplier & Contract Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
Monitor supplier performance to ensure quality, cost, and delivery standards are met.
Resolve supplier issues, disputes, or non-compliance quickly.
Operational Procurement
Place purchase orders and track progress to ensure timely delivery to site.
Work closely with project managers, site managers, and quantity surveyors to understand material requirements.
Ensure stock availability and coordinate logistics to avoid project delays.
Financial & Cost Control
Contribute to cost management by securing competitive pricing and minimising wastage.
Maintain procurement records and support budget tracking.
Report on cost savings and value-add initiatives.
Compliance & Governance
Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies and industry regulations.
Maintain accurate records for audit and reporting purposes.
Support ethical and sustainable procurement practices.
Skills & Competencies Needed:
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Knowledge of construction materials, suppliers, and subcontracting.
Good organisational and time-management skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Computer literacy in procurement systems/ERP software
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 12
Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management(CIPS)
Procurement and Logistic Management(CILT)
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
10 years plus experience in a similar role
