Purpose of the Role



Rubicon's Sustainable Technology Division is hiring a senior leader to build and lead our Power Solutions business. As

Head of Power Quality

, you will set the vision and strategy for this portfolio, expand our power quality offering (UPS, power factor correction, harmonics mitigation, and advanced power analysis), and build the structures, processes, and team needed for high-performance delivery. This role carries full P&L accountability and is responsible for driving market penetration across property development, retail, manufacturing, industrial and other key sectors. You will position Rubicon as the industry leader in power reliability and quality across South Africa.


Key Responsibilities




Strategic Leadership & Business Development




Define and execute the long?term strategy

for Power Solutions and Power Quality, aligning with Rubicon's Sustainable Technology vision and growth objectives.

Identify new markets and partnerships

for UPS and power quality technologies, developing market?entry strategies and business cases to secure investment.

Drive revenue and margin growth

through proactive business development, engaging senior clients and stakeholders to win major projects.

Represent Rubicon with key decision makers

in property development, retail, manufacturing and industrial sectors, positioning the company as a trusted advisor on power reliability and quality.

Collaborate across divisions

(e.g., solar, EV, building automation) to craft integrated solutions, working closely with other Heads to leverage synergies. Develop sector-specific strategies for critical markets (e.g., data centres, retail, industrial, mining, and medical) to address unique power quality challenges and tailor Rubicon's offering accordingly.

Team Leadership & Organisational Development




Build, mentor and manage a multi?disciplinary power solutions team

, including sales engineers, application engineers, service technicians and support staff.

Establish organisational structure, processes and SOPs

to ensure consistent delivery, high customer satisfaction, and efficient internal operations.

Promote a high?performance culture

, ensuring continuous professional development through training, coaching and performance management.

Champion safety, quality and compliance

, instilling best practices and ensuring all projects adhere to local regulations and Rubicon's internal governance.

Technical & Operational Excellence




Oversee technical solution development

for UPS and power quality projects - from initial energy/power analysis through design, proposal, delivery and after?sales support.

Collaborate with R&D and suppliers

to evaluate new technologies (e.g., harmonic filters, smart meters, advanced power factor solutions) and bring innovative solutions to market.

Ensure accurate power analysis and diagnostics

, using advanced monitoring tools to identify root causes of power quality issues and propose corrective actions.

Manage inventory and forecasting

of power solutions equipment (UPS units, batteries, capacitors, reactors, harmonic filters) to ensure supply chain readiness. Establish and lead a national customer service and support framework, including SLAs, maintenance contracts, response protocols and customer success processes to ensure long-term reliability of installed systems. Lead the development and adoption of digital tools, remote monitoring platforms, and PQ data analytics to enhance diagnostics, customer reporting and operational visibility Promote innovation across the portfolio and implement a technology roadmap for next-generation solutions (modular UPS, IoT-based monitoring, active harmonic filtering, smart capacitor banks, and grid-interactive systems)

Stakeholder Management & Governance




Maintain and expand supplier relationships

, negotiating favourable terms and ensuring supplier support for sales, service and marketing initiatives.

Oversee financial management and reporting

for the Power Solutions portfolio, including budget development, cost control and forecast accuracy.

Provide regular updates

to Rubicon executives on portfolio performance, market trends and strategic initiatives.

Ensure compliance

with all legal, regulatory and corporate governance requirements in project execution and product deployment.

Role Requirements




Education & Professional Qualifications




A

BSc (Engineering) or equivalent NQF7 qualification

is required.

Electrical engineering or millwright qualification

is beneficial. Additional training in power quality, UPS design or project management is an advantage.

Experience




8+ years

professional experience in technical product and systems sales (UPS/power quality), including leadership of a team. Demonstrated success in

strategic business development

and delivering profitable growth in the power solutions sector. Experience managing large customers in commercial, industrial or infrastructure environments. Strong understanding of

UPS systems

,

power factor correction

,

harmonics mitigation

and

power quality analysis

tools.
