Job Description

Duties/Pligte
Responsible for the strategic and operational management of the Division. Managing the annual budget for library material. Overseeing and guiding collection development and management activities. Managing vendor relations and negotiating agreements. Human resources management. Upholding quality assurance and evaluation. Maintaining excellent client service. Project management and participation. General managerial and administrative functions. Managing the Library's storage facilities for lesser-used materials.
Verantwoordelik vir die strategiese en operasionele bestuur van die Afdeling. Bestuur van die jaarlikse begroting vir biblioteekmateriaal. Toesighouding oor en gee leiding ten opsigte van die ontwikkeling van die versameling en bestuursaktiwiteite. Bestuur verhoudinge met verskaffers en onderhandel ooreenkomste. Menslikehulpbronbestuur. Behoud van gehalteversekering en evaluering. Handhaaf uitstekende klientediens. Projekbestuur en deelname. Algemene bestuurs- en administratiewe funksies. Bestuur van die Biblioteek se stoorruimtes vir materiaal wat nie so dikwels in gebruik is nie.



Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
A degree in Library and Information Science, or a bachelor's degree plus a postgraduate diploma in Library and Information Science, or BTech, or Hons-BInf (UNISA),

OR

any other relevant library qualification, e.g. a National Diploma in Library Studies or a Bachelor's of Information Science (UNISA) with eight years' relevant experience.At least five years' experience in the acquisitions division of an academic library. At least three years' experience in a management position. Knowledge of the electronic publishing environment and of available library resources. Excellent interpersonal skills. Computer proficiency in a Windows environment, especially in respect of Microsoft Excel and electronic file management. Knowledge of integrated library systems and of the tools used to manage and access electronic resources. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Accuracy and attention to detail.
'n Graad in Biblioteek- en Inligtingkunde, of 'n Baccalareus graad plus 'n nagraadse diploma in Biblioteek- en Inligtingkunde of BTech, of Hons-Binf (UNISA),

OF

enige ander toepaslike bibilioteek-kwalifikasie, bv. `n Nasionale Diploma in Biblioteekstudies of `n baccalareus graad in Inligtingkunde (UNISA) met agt jaar se toepaslike ervaring.Minstens vyf jaar se ervaring in die bestelafdeling van 'n akademiese biblioteek. Minstens drie jaar se ervaring in 'n bestuursposisie. Kennis van die elektroniese publikasieomgewing en van beskikbare biblioteekbronne. Uitnemende interpersoonlikevaardighede. Rekenaarvaardigheid in die Windows omgewing, veral met betrekking tot Microsoft Excel en elektronieseleerbestuur. Kennis van geintegreerde biblioteekstelsels en van die hulpmiddels wat gebruik word om elektroniese bronne te bestuur en toeganklik te maak. Uitnemende skriftelike en mondelinge kommunikasievaardighede. Akkuraatheid en aandag aan detail.



Recommendation/Aanbeveling
A postgraduate qualification is strongly recommended. Experience in financial management and in negotiating agreements. Experience in project management.
'n Nagraadse kwalifikasie word sterk aanbeveel. Ervaring van finansiele bestuur en met die onderhandeling van ooreenkomste. * Ervaring van projekbestuur.
