To manage all growth projects and determine the feasibility of Tharisa PLC Group mining operations, providing essential geological insights that guide decision-making for resource exploration and extraction. The role is responsible for identifying and assessing the location, quantity and quality of mineral deposits.
Context of Role
The Exploration Geologist designs, plans, executes and manages the exploration programmes of Tharisa PLC in accordance with the strategic needs of the company.
Compilation, revision and documentation of all exploration related procedures and protocols, as and when required.
Periodical compilation and reporting of exploration results.
Custodian of the geological models and exploration database.
Communicate the potential risks, benefits and uncertainties associated with different mining prospects.
Prepare budgets and monitor expenditure against budget allocations to complete projects on budget and within planned time frames.
Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to select the most appropriate course of action.
Provide quality technical advice, including the review of major plans and proposals, by drafting comprehensive reports for review by senior management
Compile Regulatory reports (DMRE),
Provide input into required changes in resources (financial or non-financial) to enable the achievement of team and/or own objectives.
Communicate with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of speciality. Liaise across the relevant Departments by engaging with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure all stakeholders remain abreast of Departmental objectives, any potential derailers are appropriately managed and duplication of work is avoided.

Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Honours Degree (NQF8) in Geology
Advanced Degree in Geology will be advantageous
Member of professional body (SACNASP)
Job Specific experience
A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in an exploration and/or mining environment.
Working knowledge of geological software (e.g., ArcGIS, MicroMine, Leapfrog, Surpac, Datamine, Sable etc.)
Proficiency in MS Office
Good track record of constructive interfacing with and influencing personnel from all related functions/departments
Multi commodity geological experience with emphasis on Chrome and PGEs
Proficient in geological software (Sable, Datamine, Arc GIS)
General survey knowledge is advantageous
International geological experience is advantageous
* Good understanding of SAMREC/SAMVAL Codes
