Engineering degree (electrical, mechanical or chemical)
Certified Energy Manager qualification.
Requirements
Proven expertise in energy management, preferably within manufacturing or industrial sectors
Experience in electricity procurement, wheeling contracts, and energy supply negotiations
Knowledge of Solar PV project development, feasibility analysis, and performance optimization
Strong analytical capability to develop energy supply mix models and scenario planning tools
Solid understanding of South African energy supply challenges and trends across multiple fuel and technology sources
Experience in energy data systems and online metering oversight
Strong knowledge of greenhouse gas accounting (Scope 1, 2, 3) and carbon management tools
Ability to manage multi-site, cross-disciplinary energy projects and drive culture change in energy use.
Duties
Lead comprehensive energy use data collection, validation, and reporting across all the company's business units and operations
Oversee and optimize the online electricity and water metering systems to ensure reliable, timely data, and the provision of operational information to assist decision makers
Source and negotiate electricity wheeling contracts to optimize energy procurement and cost efficiency
Coordinate Solar PV development projects across the company facilities, from feasibility assessment through implementation and performance monitoring
Develop energy supply mix models to determine optimal combinations of grid electricity, wheeled power, Solar PV generation, and other renewable or alternative energy sources aligned to operational needs and financial objectives
Drive thermal fuel efficiency initiatives for boilers within paper and paper converting facilities
Collaborate with operational teams to develop, implement, and monitor five (5)-year Energy Reduction Plans aligned to company and regulatory targets
Develop and manage Greenhouse Gas Pollution Prevention Plans and five (5)-year Carbon Budgets and report to Government on these
Assist in the accurate calculation of Carbon Tax related Carbon emissions
Calculate and report Scope one (1), two (2), and three (3) carbon emissions, and design strategic plans for emissions reduction including energy reduction plans, sequestration, offsets, and carbon trading options
Ongoing development of the company's Climate Change plan
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of South African energy landscape developments, including: electricity generation, transmission, and distribution; natural gas, coal, and heavy fuel oil supply; and alternative energy systems such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), thermal energy storage, green hydrogen, and waste-to-energy technologies
Establish and sustain strong liaisons with industry and business associations influencing energy and carbon policies in South Africa
Organize and facilitate Energy Centre of Excellence meetings twice per year with Energy Champions and key stakeholders to promote best practices and new technologies
Supervise and mentor the engineer-in-training assigned to support energy management initiatives
Prepare and present detailed energy and carbon reports to the company's management, Executive and Board, and relevant government departments;
Be prepared for the scope of work to change with the rapidly changing energy landscape in South Africa
Perform other related duties as may be required from time to time.
