Our client, South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI) a division of the South African Sugar Association (SASA) has a permanent opportunity available for a Geographical Information System (GIS) Officer based in Mount Edgecombe, Kwa Zulu Natal.

GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) OFFICER

The Plant and Environment Resource Centre of the South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI) has a vacancy for the position of GIS Officer. The overall purpose of the position is to assist in the application of expertise of geo-spatial technologies in research and in services to satisfy the emerging needs of sugarcane growers.

The position of GIS Officer will be based in Mount Edgecombe and the key performance areas in this role will be:

• Participating in research and remaining abreast of technical developments in the geo-spatial focus area
• Assisting in the development of annual (RD&E) topics communiques

research/technology development/knowledge exchange and projects

• Mentoring/training technical staff and research interns on new technologies and systems
• Planning, managing, or contributing to research projects dealing with various aspects of digital agriculture
• Contributing to the analysis, interpretation and presenting of research results
• Responding to requests from extension, biosecurity, growers and miller-cum-planters for expertise in geo-spatial technology-based resources through ERA

• Monitoring software licenses and ArcGIS Portal

The successful incumbent must be in possession of:

• Bachelor of Science Honors in Geography or any related field
• 2-3 years' experience in ArcGIS server administration or geo-database management, and ArcGIS suit
• Experience in remote sensing software for satellite (Idrisi, ERDAS, or ENVI) and drone (Pix4D or Drine2Map) imagery analysis
• Extensive experience in Microsoft Office suit
• Experience in digital data collection
• A valid Driver's License (Code 08)
