Job description Edufundi Foundation Phase Mentor position About the Organisation Edufundi is a non-profit organisation that provides structured in-classroom mentorship and support to teachers and leadership teams in collaboration with the District Departments of Education. We work in 40 primary schools in under-resourced communities, across four provinces in South Africa. Over the past eight years Edufundi has harnessed international best practices and leveraged local expertise to develop a comprehensive, SACE accredited in-school mentoring programme for teachers and school leaders in the South African context. The Programme aims to improve overall learner performance by creating a culture of excellent teaching and leadership practice. In this way, schools become self-sufficient, capable of understanding and solving their own challenges without relying on external help. We are now hiring for the role of Foundation Phase Mentor based in the Western Cape. The prospective candidate will be responsible for mentoring five schools located in Athlone, Western Cape. This position will officially commence on 1 January 2024 with a probation period of 1 academic term. The prospective candidate will receive 1 weeks training in preparation for the position and will be invited to attend two teambuilding sessions taking place between 9 and 15 December 2023 in Cape Town. About the Position: Foundation Phase Mentor The primary role of an Edufundi Mentor is to provide on-the-job training and mentoring to teachers in primary schools to improve their classroom practice. The programme is well-structured and centres on classroom management, lesson preparation and delivery, and learner engagement. Each Edufundi team works in up to five schools at a time. The team consists of one Edufundi Support Coach (Line Manager) and two mentors, one in the Foundation Phase and one in the Foundation Phase. These mentors each partner with three teachers at a time at each school, and work with them in their classrooms on a weekly basis. Teachers continue with the planned subject matter, but receive expert guidance and support to make teaching and learning more effective. Duties and Responsibilities: As an Edufundi mentor you will be required to perform the following duties and responsibilities at each of the schools in your cluster: xe2x97x8f Provide mentorship and support to three teachers in your phase. xe2x97x8f Spend a full lesson with each teacher, observing teaching practice and providing relevant support. xe2x97x8f Have a feedback and coaching session with each teacher using Edufundi methodology. xe2x97x8f Track the teacherxe2x80x99s progress in the journal provided. xe2x97x8f Compile written reports on each mentoring session and submit these to the Head Office as part of the monitoring and evaluation system. xe2x97x8f Co-present workshops, which take place after school hours. xe2x97x8f Work as a team with your partner and be accountable to the Edufundi Support Coach in terms of performance. In addition, you will be required to: xe2x97x8f Attend all Edufundi workshops at/for your schools, some of which will occasionally fall on a Saturday. xe2x97x8f Attend and participate in the Teambuilding Week once a year, held in Cape Town. xe2x97x8f Attend and participate in all other Edufundi training and professional development events, some of which may fall outside of the school terms.
