The Mechanical Foreman (Maintenance & Construction) is responsible to ensure a safe, efficient and productive engineering maintenance through the supervision of a team of artisans and contractors on the Shaft.

This must be done according to regulations and all laws relevant to the tasks.

Take on the responsibility to coordinate and supervise the activities of Mototolo, while providing an excellent service. You will also oversee the technical requirements by providing your Engineering and Leadership expertise.

Job Intent

Purpose: To ensure equipment availability and reliability through application of maintenance management systems and resources to achieve production targets.

To plan, execute and manage the section in line with the department/ functional requirements in order to meet business objectives. To implement and manage an effective safety health environment and quality management system to ensure the mine meets legal requirements and continuously strives to improve its inherent risk profile.

More of your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the code of practice and procedures are updated and communicated.
  • Ensuring that machinery and equipment perform safely to design capabilities while ensuring environmental compliance.
  • Develop and implementing appropriate maintenance systems and monitor feedback received in relation to equipment breakdowns.
  • The development of project plans with Engineering Planners while ensuring cost management and carry out the annual budgeting exercise, control overtime worked and expenditure.
  • The monitoring and reporting on financial expenditure will be essential.
  • Ensure team roles are well defined while supporting and participating in the training and development requirements of each team member. As part of this role, you will mentor and coach employees
  • Promote adherence to safety, health and environmental practices and procedures. Identify and address unsafe and potential hazardous situations.
  • Ensure installation sites of underground conveyor belts are adequately prepared. Ensure conveyor belt construction and extensions are executed in line with the mining activities including construction of underground mechanical infrastructure according to the prescribed standards. Work planning and scheduling, budget and cost management, capital infrastructure management, labour and contractor management, learner artisans, artisans and supervisor development and training.
  • Oversee the contracting services rendered to the entire mine by assisting in developing a scope and managing the commercial process to appoint Contractors. Manage relevant contractors on site and ensure adherence to rules and regulations. Monitor contractor performance in accordance with SLA's. Maintain and improve operational supporting systems and procedures including management of contractor performance against service level agreements.
  • Monitor tasks delegated to subordinates to ensure Department effectiveness and targets are met.
  • Monitor spending and allocate expenses appropriately. Review and submit invoices.
  • Plan, organize, lead, control and develop subordinates' activities. Do performance reviews.
This role is in the Engineering department at band 7 and will be reporting to the Engineering Superintendent.

Qualifications
  • Matric / Grade 12 / Standard 10 or N3
  • Trade Certificate Section 13/26D (Fitter, Boilermaker)
  • Foreman Certificate (advantageous)
Experience, Skills & Knowledge:
  • 5 years' post trade qualification experience
  • 5 years' supervisory experience in a Foreman role (Trackless underground) conveyer belt / pumping / Chairlifts/ Compressors/ Ventilation Fans / (advantageous)
  • Own reliable vehicle & valid driving licence code 08
  • Computer literacy (Word / Excel / Outlook / SAP)
  • If successful, you will be required to undergo a Medical Fitness Test.
