Job Description


Position Overview:

A Distribution Manager is responsible for overseeing the logistics, distribution, and transportation of products from a manufacturing facility to a customer or retailer.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Relevant degree qualification (logistics / warehousing management)
  • 10 - 12 years + in similar position with an FMCG environment
  • 8 - 10 years at Operations Manager level

Responsibilities:

Operations
  • Developing and implementing strategies for improving distribution processes, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Managing and coordinating the transportation and delivery of products to customers and retailers.
  • Ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of products to customers and retailers.
  • Maintaining accurate records of inventory and shipments.
  • Managing and supervising warehouse and distribution center operations.
  • Developing and managing relationships with suppliers, customers, and transportation providers.
  • Analyzing data and market trends to identify opportunities for improving distribution processes and strategies.
  • Manage the end-to-end distribution center operations including but not limited to key process activities such as receiving inventory, put away, storage, picking, packing and loading.
  • Identify, develop and implement identified policies and procedures which relate to day-to-day operational activities are developed and maintained.
  • Ensure the warehouse thru-put and productivity are maintained.
  • Holistic management with regards to process conformance, inventory accuracy and management, transport management, BCP planning, special occasion planning, continues improvement projects for sustainability.
Finances
  • Manage and evaluate finances of the operation to maximise profitability. Compilation of budget and budget control.
  • Accurate and timeous forecasting based on operational requirements.
  • Continuous improvements are developed, and action plans are compiled on a regular basis.
  • Support audits and facilitate audit report corrective action.
  • Operational expenses and transport costs are accounted for and managed within budgets.
Health and Safety
  • Manage all aspects of health & safety, technical work and standard operating procedures to ensure operational excellence to support the achievement of objectives and targets, ensuring compliance to industry legislation and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure all work equipment are used in proper manner, maintained properly and functioning to its maximum capacity.
  • Facilitate housekeeping audits regularly, and corrective action is taken if required (SAFSIS).
  • Ensure that employees adhere to safety regulations and non-compliance is dealt with effectively.
Service Excellence
  • Implement and market strategies to deliver services as per SLAxe2x80x99s to enhance and maintain customer confidence and relations.
  • Track KPI reports and reason out any deviation from the targets and take appropriate measures to avoid errors.
  • Develop, monitor, and adapt KPIxe2x80x99S to address operational and Performance requirements
  • Quality of service provided to the customer is checked on an ongoing basis by monitoring critical performance areas and taking timeous corrective action if required.
  • The instances of poor and/or excellent customer relationships is reported to Management on an on-going basis.
  • Quality of service provided is audited through personal interaction with the customer on an ongoing basis and timeously corrective action is taken when required.
People
  • Provide leadership to the operations through recruiting and retaining competent staff and encouraging high performance to ensure a productive and engaged team.
  • Manage all performance management aspects of direct reports and facilitate the same within the rest of the departments.
  • Facilitate an engaged and motivated workforce.
  • Assist staff with career planning, training and development through identification and deliver of interventions against needs.
  • Manage discipline and grievance aspects of all direct reports and facilitate the same within the rest of the departments.
