Job Description

Key Responsibilities



Plan, schedule, and monitor fleet movements for local and cross-border routes Coordinate vehicle dispatch, tracking, and route optimisation Monitor driver performance, driving hours, and compliance Ensure vehicles comply with roadworthiness, licensing, and permit requirements Manage cross-border documentation and border clearance processes Liaise with drivers, customs agents, clearing agents, and border officials Track vehicle locations using fleet tracking systems and respond to incidents Monitor fuel consumption, tolls, and trip costs Report on fleet performance, delays, breakdowns, and incidents Coordinate vehicle maintenance, servicing, and breakdown support Ensure compliance with company policies, road traffic legislation, and safety standards

Cross-Border & Regulatory Requirements



Strong knowledge of SADC cross-border transport regulations Experience with cross-border documentation, including: Customs clearance documents Cross-border permits Road freight manifests Vehicle permits and border fees Understanding of SARS customs processes and clearing procedures Knowledge of neighbouring countries' road regulations (e.g. Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia)

Skills & Competencies



Strong planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills Ability to work under pressure and manage time-sensitive operations Excellent communication skills (drivers, border agents, management) Strong attention to detail and administrative accuracy Computer literacy (fleet management systems, Excel, tracking software) Ability to manage multiple vehicles and routes simultaneously High level of integrity and compliance awareness

Experience & Qualifications



Senior Certificate 3-5 years' experience as a Fleet Controller, with

proven cross-border experience

Experience managing long-haul and cross-border drivers Knowledge of vehicle tracking and fleet management systems Valid Code 08/10 driver's licence (advantageous)

Health, Safety & Compliance



Knowledge of Road Traffic Act and Occupational Health & Safety requirements Ability to enforce safe driving practices and fatigue management Incident reporting and accident investigation experience

Working Conditions



Office-based with extended hours depending on operational requirements On-call availability for after-hours and weekend operations High-pressure environment with real-time operational decision-making
