Job Description


Responsibilities:

  • Plan and schedule tipper truck movements using sub-contracted vehicles to optimize load utilization and minimize downtime.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with subcontractors, ensuring competitive rates and adherence to company standards.
  • Assign subcontracted trucks to specific loads based on availability, location, and experience.
  • Dispatch subcontracted trucks to loading and unloading sites, ensuring adherence to delivery schedules and customer requirements.
  • Continuously monitor the movement of subcontracted trucks using GPS tracking systems and integrate data into fleet management software.
  • Identify and address any potential delays or disruptions in the delivery process involving subcontractors.
  • Provide real-time updates to customers on the status of their deliveries, including those handled by subcontractors.
  • Effectively manage and communicate with subcontractors to ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Address subcontractor concerns, providing guidance, and resolving any issues promptly.
  • Conduct regular debriefing sessions with subcontractors to gather feedback and improve operational efficiency.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance, including fuel consumption, adherence to schedules, compliance with safety regulations, and overall cost-effectiveness.
  • Analyze data to identify areas for improvement in subcontractor management and implement corrective actions.
  • Generate performance reports for management to track overall fleet efficiency, subcontractor utilization, and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
  • Maintain positive relationships with customers by addressing their concerns promptly and professionally, even when deliveries involve subcontractors.
  • Handle customer complaints effectively and finding solutions to delivery-related issues, including those involving subcontractors.
  • Provide regular communication to customers regarding load status, ETAs, any potential delays, and any issues involving subcontractors.
  • Ensure that all subcontracted vehicles and drivers comply with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of subcontractor contracts, inspections, maintenance logs, and driver certifications.
  • Address any compliance issues promptly and taking necessary corrective actions with subcontractors involved.
  • Effectively identify, analyze, and resolve operational issues that may arise during subcontracted truck operations.
  • Manage incidents, accidents, and breakdowns involving subcontractors in a timely and efficient manner to minimize disruption to operations.
  • Implement preventive measures to reduce the likelihood of future incidents, including those involving subcontractors.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implementing innovative solutions to enhance subcontractor management, fleet efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Keep up with advancements in technology and adopt new tools and systems to streamline fleet operations, including subcontractor management.
  • Contribute to the overall growth and success of the tipper transport business, including optimizing subcontractor utilization and enhancing customer satisfaction.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience as a Fleet Controller in the road freight/logistics industry, with experience managing subcontractors
  • Proven track record of success in managing a fleet of tipper trucks and coordinating with subcontractors
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with GPS tracking systems
  • Knowledge of transportation laws and regulations
  • Experience in subcontractor management, including contract negotiation, performance evaluation, and issue resolution
  • Experience in utilizing technology to streamline subcontractor management and optimize fleet operations
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
  • Diploma or degree in Logistics or Supply Chain Management
  • Experience with transportation management software
