Bidvest Tank Terminals has an opportunity for a Fixed Asset Accountant. This opportunity exists within the Finance Department, based in Head Office, reporting to the Financial Accountant Manager. The candidate must meet the following minimum criteria.



The Fixed Asset Accountant is responsible for maintaining the Fixed Asset Register including assessing Capex Applications and Project related costs.

Minimum Requirements

Diploma/ Degree in Financial Accounting or Management Accounting

5 years' experience with financial reporting and fixed asset reporting

Duties and Responsibilities

Review Capex applications for alignment to the Finance capitalisation requirements



Record and track approved capexes against the Capex Budget



Track project closure milestones and ensure timely closure



Prepare the Monthly Project Dashboard to track the status of open projects on SAP



Attend Project status meetings and provide feedback reports



Perform asset componentization based on nature of expenditure and input from Project Engineers



Assign useful lives and asset categories in line with accounting policies



Analyse costs of completed projects and prepare project capitalization schedules and supporting documentation



Review the Fixed Asset Register monthly



Ensure that the Tax Asset Register is properly maintained and calculated wear and tear allowances are in accordance with the Income Tax Act



Prepare all Fixed asset related financial reports



Ensure that all asset disposals and write offs are processed on SAP



Propose annual asset verification methodologies



Co-ordinate and implement annual asset verifications



Assist the Financial Manager and Financial Accounting Manager with asset related audits



Complete the capex budgeting reports

Knowledge, skills and abilities required

Solid knowledge of the Accounting Principles, Practices and Standards



Knowledge of the capital allowances from the Income Tax Act



Relevant SAP and HFM knowledge advantageous



Highly proficient in Advanced Excel (VLOOKUP, SUMIF, Pivot Tables etc)



Ability to analyse, understand and problem solve financial information



Systematic and logical thinker who is proactive and able to prioritise



Ability to work effectively and accurately under pressure



Result orientated with demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement of work process



Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with a high level of integrity



Good verbal and written communication skills
