Job Summary An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Financial Control business. We are seeking an adept individual to provide vital support to the Head of Financial Control Cluster xe2x80x93 Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) in the effective execution of their responsibilities, and to assist in overseeing the daily operations of the Cluster Financial Control functions.

The role entails serving as a strategic partner and primary point of contact between the following stakeholders: Regional Financial Control functional teams, Head of Financial Control Cluster: CIB, and the associated CFOs/business clusters.

This position plays a pivotal role in aligning the business's top priorities, the relevant CFO's agendas, and Financial Control's objectives. The Financial Controller should possess a comprehensive understanding and oversight of key drivers, significant issues, and high-priority areas within Financial Control, spanning all functions within the division and across the affected business clusters. The Financial Controller bears the responsibility of reviewing all cluster-level deliverables, encompassing statutory financial reports, regulatory submissions, audit reports, and more.



Key Responsibilities

Extend support to cluster stakeholders, Financial Control functional heads, and cluster Financial Controllers in terms of recurring tasks and responsibilities, including:

Coordinating the closure and reporting of monthly financial results.

Monthly validation and oversight of the reconciliation and attestation process, complemented by the reporting of Key Risk Indicators for Financial Reporting.

Efficiently managing and tracking the submission of periodic regulatory reports.

Providing essential inputs for governance and taking charge of report and submission preparation.

Function as a liaison to both external and internal audit teams, offering assurance to Financial Control and pertinent risk committees regarding the appropriateness of controls and the accuracy of financial statements.

Provide assistance to cluster stakeholders, functional heads within Financial Control, and cluster Financial Controllers on the following strategic aspects:

Implementation and integration of cluster initiatives and projects.

Changes in Accounting Standards.

Changes in Regulatory Standards.

Changes in systems, IT platforms, processes, and controls.

Offer decision-making guidance and recommendations concerning the Management Information presented to the cluster, directed towards pertinent Executive Committees (EXCOs), Management Committees (MANCOs), and Chief Financial Officers (CFOs).

Facilitate scenario planning for Cluster Management teams and other relevant forums, ensuring preparedness for potential actions in diverse economic scenarios.

Assume responsibility for managing the cluster's Finance Risk and Reporting Committee (FRRC), ensuring the effective resolution of cluster-related concerns.

Foster and build relationships with senior executives, adeptly resolving disputes while upholding a professional demeanor.

Foster a culture of collaboration among all stakeholders with regard to matters related to Financial Control.

Collaborate with the Head of Financial Control Cluster: CIB to address the following:

Establish the people management strategy for Financial Control resources dedicated to cluster support, emphasizing talent management, development, resourcing, and retention.

Review training needs for resources responsible for cluster support within Financial Control, and ensure that the Finance Training Framework integrates new training requirements.

Evaluate the effectiveness of the formal Talent Management process.

Provide leadership and support for initiatives led by the Financial Control Management Committee (MANCO).

Review audit scopes defined by managers within the team and by Absa Internal Audit or Management Assurance prior to the initiation of audits.

Review logs detailing audit issues and findings, ensuring due diligence towards timely closure.

Undertake attestations to affirm the adequacy of controls as required.

Oversee the management of pivotal financial risks within the cluster, actively engaging in risk mitigation efforts while striving to optimize capital efficiency.

  • 5 to 7 years PQE experience
