Sanlam Risk and Savings (SRS), which is one of the businesses within Sanlam Retail Affluent, offers risk and recurring saving solutions to various segments within the market.

Purpose of the role

The Financial Accountant is responsible for effective cost management within the SRA governance framework (including actual cost, budgeting and forecasting), day-to-day procure to pay process, month-end income statement and balance sheet reconciliations or analysis, journal processing, credit card reconciliations, compilation of scorecard, capturing of Risk schedules and Financial losses on the Sanlam Risk management system, as well as any other financial tasks listed below.

What will you do?

Outputs? Core Tasks:

The key responsibilities of the role include the following:

1. Effective cost management and reporting.

  • Monthly variance analysis and cost investigations.
  • Monthly cost reporting to business unit Head of Departments.
  • Budgeting and forecasting.
  • Solve financial enquiries, investigations and problems on time and in an effective manner.
  • Ensure effective controls and procedures are in place to adhere to approval framework.
  • Process journals on SAP.
  • Approve payments in accordance with the SRA approval framework on SAP.
  • Report in-force units and policies.
  • Perform reconciliation on certain income statements and balance sheet accounts.
  • Attend to credit card reconciliations.
2. Compile (obtain, supply input and address outstanding items) the following documentation:
  • SRS Scorecard
  • SRS Risk Register
  • SRS Financial losses
  • Sanlam Life Retail TCF report
3. Assist with FCA models and cost allocations investigations when needed.
4. Ad hoc tasks and projects.

What will make you successful in this role?

Role Requirement:

Qualifications:
  • Grade 12
  • Relevant degree in Financial Accounting as major subject will be an advantage
Experience:
  • At least 3-5 years relevant financial reporting experience within the Financial Services or Insurance industry
  • Exposure in writing and analysing reports
Knowledge:
  • Sound Financial Services industry knowledge
  • Insurance industry knowledge will be an advantage
  • Proficiency in SAP/4HANA will be an advantage
