Job Description


Financial accountant should be an ethical and competent financial advisor to team and stakeholders, focussed on impactful and cost effective project and support initiatives driving the success of the organisation. The Accountant should be able to :

  • Articulate the general concepts of financial planning, budgeting and forecasting and knows how they interrelate.
  • Continuously looks for new opportunities to obtain and save funds.
  • Prepares financial reports based on prescribed format.
  • Understands and weighs up financial implications of propositions.
  • Controls assets according to prescribed policies and procedures.
  • Understands, analyses and monitors financial reports.
  • Manages expenditure in relation to cash flow projections. Ensures effective utilisation of financial resources.
  • Develop corrective measures or actions to ensure alignment of budget to financial resources.
Reporting to the CEO of IMCT, the position is based in Gauteng, with the organisationxe2x80x99s offices in Lenasia.
Position Overview

The Financial Accountant role reports to the IMCT CEO and is expected to provide expert accounting advice and finance support services to the entire IMCT. Support the CEO to plan, manage and monitor the implementation of all financial management practices, activities and processes in order to deliver on approved operational financial plans and to continuously enhance service delivery. Support the CEO with the annual budget and budget management processes, and provide detailed analysis of financial transactions to enable management and the trustees to utilise the information for better decision making. And ensure that function adequately provides direction, review and reports effectively and timely up the line.

Key liaison with external expert support functions including, tax, auditors to meet compliance, statutory and reporting returns and requirements.
Specific Role Responsibilities
  • Define standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Implement and manage end-to-end finance processes.
  • Manage the security of all assets (including cash) in line with approved policies, processes and procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate financial processes for quality and effectiveness and notify stakeholders accordingly.
  • Monitor and report on progress against operational plans and adjust where required.
  • Prepare reconciliations of financial records to enable verification of the validity of transactions and the appropriate action where required.
  • Load and prepare payments and ensure compliancy in terms of company policies.
  • Compile management accounts, including, budgets, cash flows, variance analysis and commentaries.
  • Ensure accurate billing in respect of accounts and charges, and identify opportunities for saving initiatives.
  • Ensure all reconciliations are compiled and reviewed by CEO.
  • Ensure effective and efficient administration of operational costs within budget,
  • Prepare VAT returns and ensure all documents are compliant in terms of SARS directives.
  • Prepare and ensure CEO verify salary inputs.
  • Engage with key finance stakeholders (tax, auditors etc)
  • Continuously monitors and supervises work progress and performance (of self, team and service providers) against project targets and performance targets.
  • Motivates others by informing them of performance against targets.
Processes
  • Conduct periodic assessments on the compliance of financial processes,
  • Contribute to and assist in the effective execution of internal and external audits, financial statement generation and regulatory submissions.
  • Budget support
  • Finalise the month-end processes and provide financial reports to management.
  • Adhere to organisational policies and procedures to ensure cost effectiveness and reduction of financial wastage.
  • Ensure that financial administration delivery processes comply with internal control and governance standards and report on any deviations to minimise risk.
  • Execute work activities effectively and efficiently in order to maximise efficiencies and reduce unnecessary delays in achieving goals of the office.
  • Oversee accurate reconciliation of all financial records to enable verification of the validity of transactions and to take appropriate action where required.
  • Process or accrue expenses accurately on the financial system, within the allocated month.
  • Provide operational support related to accounting activities and sequences to contribute to the overall financial processes.
Qualifications and Experience
  • A bachelorxe2x80x99s or advanced degree
  • Five years of prior experience as an accountant, or in a related position
  • Strong business acumen
  • Strong understanding of finance governance processes
