Job Description


The Chief Executive Officer is ultimately responsible for the overall impact, performance and strategy implementation of the organisation, and accountable to the IMCT Trustees. While the CEO will be required to run many of the organisationxe2x80x99s day-to-day operations, given the nature of a non-profit company, the CEO will also be required to build a functional team to assist in managing the day-to-day operations, allowing the CEO to be more involved in the direction and strategy of the organisation and in key stakeholder relations. The CEO should have a very good understanding of how all organisational processes impact staff retention, operational management, and fundraising for the organisation.

Specific Role Responsibilities

Executive Leadership and Organisational Management

  • Provide thoughtful and visionary executive leadership that is inclusive, transparent, and empowering in a manner that supports and guides the organisationxe2x80x99s mission as defined by the trustees.
  • Present strategic options and plans for organization impact and gain trustee approval as needed to carry out the work of the mission of the organisation.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organisation and ensure its overall successful long-term operations and success.
  • Organise, motivate, and mentor internal management and team leaders to strategically grow the organisationxe2x80x99s impact, programs, fundraising, and to effectively fulfil its important mission.
  • Apply innovative and strategic thinking and performance measurements to analyse and support strategic decision-making.
  • Continually foster a culture that encourages collaboration between departments and recognizes positive contributions.
  • Responsible for key strategic stakeholder relations.
  • Contribute to and support the implementation of the strategic plan and drive its implementation.
  • Quality assurance and review of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to the IMCT Trustees, funders and potential funders.
  • Manage and motivate staff, overseeing processes such as hiring, separation, ongoing staff development, performance management, and compensation and benefits.
  • Inspire a business-oriented, professional, results-driven environment across the organisation.
  • Perform general management duties overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organisation.
  • Establish goals, objectives, and operational plans in collaboration with the Trustees, staff, and other managers.
Fundraising
  • Drive fundraising, leveraging the Board as needed.
  • Initiate, cultivate, and extend relationships with the organisationxe2x80x99s portfolio of foundation and corporate funders.
  • Ensure the organisationxe2x80x99s financial stability and sustainability by maintaining healthy cash flow and adequate reserves.
Financial Management and Administration
  • Provide strategic leadership and hands-on management for all of the administrative and operational functions of the organization in accordance with the mission, goals, and policies.
  • Prudently direct resources and manage all financials within budget guidelines and according to current laws and regulations.
  • Assume responsibility for the fiscal integrity of the organisation.
  • Monitor trustee-approved budget and manage daily financial operations to ensure maximum utilization of resources and optimum financial positioning for the organisation.
  • Build and administer the annual budget, with trustee approval.
External Relations and Communications
  • Represent the organisation and serve as a spokesperson publicly at events, conferences, and partnership meetings.
  • Present and promote the organisation and its mission, programs, partners, and members in a consistently positive manner.
  • Manage all aspects of the organisationxe2x80x99s marketing and public relations.
  • Liaison with Department of Basic Education and other applicable senior officials xe2x80x93 representing the trustees.
Governance
  • Maintain regular and ongoing communication to build strong relationships with the entire board of trustees.
  • Communicate effectively with the trustees by providing members with all information necessary to continually function properly and make informed decisions in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Attend all trustee meetings and provide reports and updates on staff as well as all current work, project timelines, and project and organisational progress.
  • Implement trustee policies and procedures and build support for trustee decisions amongst staff.
  • Work closely and openly with the trustees and Department or other stakeholder committees, ensuring ongoing communication of risks, issues, as well as successes.
  • Adhere to xe2x80x98best practicexe2x80x99 governance processes including oversight of financial and budget management
Qualifications and Experience
  • A bachelorxe2x80x99s or advanced degree
  • Five years of prior experience as a CEO, Executive Director, or in a related position at a non-profit, foundation, or commerce
  • Strong business acumen
  • Proven experience executing organisation growth
  • Proven experience working with and leading and working with diverse groups of people
  • Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, public relations, human capital, etc.
  • Experience and success in motivating, recruiting, developing, retaining, and mentoring high performance, mission-driven, and results-oriented teams
  • Excellent written, oral, and public speaking skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with strong interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
Skills and Personal Attributes
  • A good understanding of the non-profit sector with experience in educational sector and a passion for the organisations mission and goals.
  • Good working understanding of public education sector at managerial level would be an advantage.
  • Prior experience as an Executive Director or a CEO (experience in a non-profit would be preferable but not essential).
  • Prior experience with governing bodies like trustees and creating and implementing organisational and operational strategies. Highly skilled in finances and marketing.
  • Responsible for the overall direction of the organisation. Responsible for the annual budget.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. Strategic thinking and implementation.
  • Responsible for key strategic stakeholder relations including being responsible for donor / funder relationships and holding the communication platform.
