Job Description

Job Overview:
We are looking for an accountant with strong technical expertise to join our finance team. This role is ideal for someone with solid academic and working knowledge of IFRS and taxation.
The role is a one year fixed term contract.
The role of the Financial Accountant is to provide direct support to the Financial Controller in managing the financial operations of the company. This includes ensuring the accurate processing of transactions, assisting with financial reporting, maintaining compliance with statutory requirements, and supporting strategic financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Reporting and Reconciliation:

  • Assist with preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Perform account reconciliations (e.g., bank, VAT, inter-company).
  • Maintain and update financial records in the accounting system (e.g., Xero).
  • Support the preparation of financial statements in compliance with IFRS.
2. Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and variance analysis.
  • Maintain a rolling forecast of financial commitments.
3. Transactional Support:
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Process supplier invoices and purchase orders through ApprovalMax.
  • Manage foreign currency.
  • Monitor exchange rate fluctuations and their impact on capitalisation.
4. Tax and Compliance:
  • Support VAT returns and tax compliance activities.
  • Assist with SARS eFiling submissions and compliance with South African tax laws.
  • Ensure adherence to Section 12B and other tax regulations affecting renewable energy.
5. Project Support:
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting for renewable energy projects.
  • Track development costs and commitments related to SPVs and project milestones.
  • Maintain accurate records of development fees and capitalisation treatments.
6. Audit and Internal Controls:
  • Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring readiness and compliance.
  • Maintain internal controls and support Delegation of Authority implementation.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for key financial processes.
7. Ad Hoc Financial Support:
  • Perform research on new legislation or accounting standards affecting the company.
  • Draft and update financial policies and procedures.
  • Provide financial insights for strategic decisions, including portfolio financing.
Key Competencies and Skills:
Strong knowledge of IFRS and South African tax laws.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero) and reporting tools (e.g., Syft).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines under pressure.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Professional accounting designation (e.g., SAIPA, SAICA) is advantageous.
3-5 years of experience in financial accounting or auditing.
Experience with renewable energy projects or SPVs is a bonus.
Familiarity with Xero, ApprovalMax and automated financial workflows is preferred.
