Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Field Team Manager (FTM) to oversee the operational performance of ikeja's field teams in Cape Town. The FTM will lead a team of Field Team Controllers, who in turn manage their respective field teams, ensuring that installations, uninstalls, maintenance, customer service activities and other operational projects or tasks are executed to the highest standards.
In addition to managing field operations, the FTM will also directly manage one Field Sales Representative operating within the Cape Town region, ensuring that sales and/or field collections activities are aligned with operational goals and contribute to the overall success of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, mentor, and manage Field Team Controllers, a Field Sales Representative and ensuring optimal team performance.
  • Set clear performance expectations, monitor KPIs and provide coaching and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a positive team culture built on accountability, collaboration and continuous development.
Operational Oversight
  • Ensure smooth daily operations across multiple field teams, including installations, uninstalls, maintenance, collections and support services.
  • Oversee task allocation, prioritization and execution to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Conduct regular quality checks and enforce SOP compliance.
  • Liaise and align continuously with Customer Engagement representatives in Cape Town and/or Johannesburg to ensure seamless operations, particularly around planning and scheduling of jobs and updating customers where operational activities intersect with CE.
Process & Performance Improvement
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Support the rollout of new systems, procedures, and products, ensuring effective change management.
  • Utilize data and analytics to report on operational performance, highlight trends and propose solutions.
Resource & Asset Management
  • Oversee equipment, tools, inventory, and vehicle utilization.
  • Ensure maintenance logs, audits, and safety protocols are strictly followed.
  • Manage cost efficiency and accountability in line with company policies.
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
  • Provide accurate weekly and monthly reports to the Field Operations Manager.
  • Collaborate with HR, Operations and other departments on employee development, compliance and engagement.
  • Engage with customer feedback data and ensure service quality improvements are implemented.
On-Site Leadership
  • Be present and visible at the Phillipi Distribution Centre daily to monitor and support operations.
  • Ensure workplace safety and enforce adherence to health and safety protocols.
  • Take prompt action in managing incidents, escalations and operational risks.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Matric/Grade 12 is required, with a Diploma or Certificate in Operations Management or any management-related course is strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required (given daily presence needed at the Distribution Centre).
  • Minimum 4 years' proven experience in operations, logistics or field team management (telecommunications industry experience, specifically in installation and maintenance, is highly advantageous).
  • Proven experience leading and managing multiple field teams in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong background in operations and/or project management, with demonstrated success in coordinating large-scale field activities.
  • Previous experience handling customer and employee relations effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple reports and build high-performing teams through coaching and accountability.
  • Strong understanding of project coordination, operational planning and resource allocation.
  • Familiarity with operational systems, SOPs, KPIs and data-driven performance management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and internal software systems, with the ability to generate and interpret operational reports.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making and communication skills, with proven ability to act decisively under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, while maintaining high levels of accountability and efficiency.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
