Job Summary: A safari lodge owned by a private individual on the privately owned Mziki Private Nature Reserve (4 of the Big 5) located in the North West province approximately a 2-hour drive from the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, is currently looking for an experienced, trustworthy, well-presented Field Guide of sober habits to share their love for the natural world by helping the lodge owner and their guests discover the wonders of the African wilderness. The successful applicant must be RESPONSIBLE, DEPENDABLE, and can perform their duties INDEPENDENTLY with minimal guidance, supervision, and oversight. The Field Guidexe2x80x99s primary responsibilities will be:

• Safari Drives: Lead immersive safari drives and walks, providing insightful information about the flora and fauna of the region, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of owner and their guests
• Wildlife Tracking: Use your tracking skills to locate and identify wildlife, allowing the owner and their guests to witness the magic of untamed creatures in their natural habitat.
• Owner and Guest Engagement: Interact with the owner and their guests, answer questions, and share your knowledge about the ecosystem, conservation efforts, and the lodge's wildlife.
• Safety: Ensure the safety of the owner and all guests during activities, including adherence to lodge and reserve safety regulations.
• Conservation: Promote an understanding of and respect for the environment and actively participate in our lodge's conservation initiatives.
• Maintenance: Maintain and care of the lodgexe2x80x99s safari vehicles and equipment, swimming pool, gardens and surrounding area.

Minimum Experience Or Qualification:

• Valid driverxe2x80x99s license, and PrDP and own vehicle.
• Valid First Aid Level 1 or up.
• Experience of at least two years as a Field Guide / Ranger in a luxury environment.
• FGASA Level 2 (or NQF4) qualifications as a Field Guide.
• DEAT Registration.
• Knowledge about the local North West Province bushveld Fauna and Flora.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in English.
• A general maintenance background or sound knowledge of all maintenance and upkeep functions on a lodge will be advantageous.
• Willingness to perform additional duties to facilitate the lodgexe2x80x99s operations, as needed.
• Flexibility and a willingness to work weekends, public holidays and after hours.
• Well groomed.
• Contactable references.
• Ability to remain composed, particularly during stressful or uncomfortable circumstances.

Skills required:

• Physically and mentally fit.
• A working knowledge of local fauna, flora.
• Ability to safely operate a game drive 4x4 vehicle.
• Basic 4x4 vehicle maintenance skills.
• A thorough knowledge of all aspects of field guiding.
• Basic knowledge of swimming pool, garden, and exterior area maintenance.

Key Performance Objectives:

• Conduct guided game drives, guided walks, and other activities on the lodge.
• Operate, maintain, and clean lodge vehicles.
• Assume full responsibility for lodge vehicles and any other company issued equipment.
• Respect and protect the lodge and surrounding game reserve property.
• The highest possible standard of safety measures should be maintained at all times.

Hospitality / Owner and Guest Relations

• Reception and welcoming of owner and their guests.
• Presentation and brief of the history and makeup of the game reserve to the new/first time guests of the owner.
• Attending to the reasonable needs and entertainment of the owner and their guests.
• Planning and executing unique experiences for the owner and their guests.
• Hosting when required for functions,
• The Field guide acknowledges that entertainment of guests may occur during unorthodox times.

Infrastructure & Maintenance:

• General upkeep and maintenance of lodge and surrounding reserve properties.
• Ensure the properties are always kept to a high standard.
• Garden and pool maintenance.
• Ensuring the overall owner and guest impression of the lodge and reserve properties. are always kept at a high standard.

Administrative duties:

• Quality control and lodge room checks prior to owner and/or guestxe2x80x99s arrivals.
• Stock Taking and Ordering necessary parts and supplies.
• Adhere to Reserve rules and protocols.
• Regular correspondence with the owner.
