POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a full time Fibre Optic Technician to join our team!

Needs to be willing to relocate, if appointed permanently after probation period.

You will install, test, trouble shoot, repair fibre optic cables in a FTTH and FTTB network.

Populate and maintain fibre network cabinets.

Do mapping of fibre network.

RESPONSIBILITIES

? Installation and maintenance of a Fiber Optics FTTH & FTTB network.

? Install, repair and resolve fibre optic systems and ensure that they work properly.

? Take care of fibre splicing and rectify fibre optic problem areas.

? Splice and Terminate SM fibre.

? Perform basic to complex installation, troubleshooting & repair of fibre systems under minimal

supervision.

? Access the fibre optic splice enclosure and splice the necessary fibres (aerial and underground).

? Perform fibre tests: OTDR, power meter / laser source, and scopes.

? Prep tray and splice fibre optic cable ranging from single fibre to large counts as well as perform

ring cuts when needed.

? Install demarcation enclosures, switches and other telecom equipment.

? Fiber optic test and troubleshooting abilities.

? Configure and setup routers, etc.

? Populate and maintain fibre network cabinets, OLT's, fibre switches, patch panels, etc.

? Do mapping of fibre network (existing and new) with OSPInsight software.

? Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

? Commit to safe work - there is nothing more important!

? Monitor, communicate and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fibre or fibre

related equipment.

? Prep cable, splicing, connectors, installation of fibre optic cabinets.

? OSP/ISP splice enclosure manufacturers.

? Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and/or install fibre-based services.

? Splice and fibre issues using industry standard equipment.

? Terminate, splice, document and test fibre optic cables.

JOB EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

? FOA - CFOT Certification.

? Recent Fiber Installation - Pulling/Terminating fibre cabling.

? Fusion splicing/terminations.

? Knowledge of OTDR and Light Source and Power Meters.

? Cable prep/single and mass fusion splicing and termination abilities.

? Fiber optic test and troubleshooting abilities.

? Knowledge and experience working in fibre network cabinets.

? Configuring various fibre devices and troubleshooting. (OLT, ONU, fibre switches, routers)

? Knowledge and experience working with CAD software.

? Drivers licence.

? Good motor vehicle driving record.

? Excellent writing and oral communication skills.

? Ability to interact with customers, vendors, contractors and other required personnel.

? The individual must comply with departmental and corporate internal controls and all internal

controls processes.

? The individual must possess and employ the highest ethical and business standards and always

conduct himself/herself with the greatest degree of professional integrity.

? Willingness to further studies and qualifications.

DESIRED:

? FOA - CFOS/D for network design and installation. (very beneficial) with at least 2 years experience

? A+ and N+ is an added advantage.

? Familiar with splice drawings and OTDR test sheets and reading traces.

? Ability to read splicing matrix and design drawings.

EXPERIENCE

Fiber Optic: 5 years (Minimum).

Pay: R8000,00 - R12000,00 per month
