Farm Manager - DelmasFull job descriptionIntroductionOur client, Bonsma Enterprises, is a dynamic farming company with a passion for agriculture. Bonsma is seeking an experienced candidate to help oversee their farm in Delmas, Mpumalanga. The Farm Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the livestock farm. This includes the care, breeding, and management of animals, as well as ensuring the overall health of the farm's operations, facilities, and equipment. The role requires a strong understanding of animal husbandry, farm management practices, and regulatory compliance to ensure high-quality livestock production and sustainabilityDuties & Responsibilities8.1 Supervision of the employer's livestock (mainly cattle) farming enterprise inthe district of Delmas, Gauteng Province, including general herdmanagement, health inspections, implementing methods to maximize theyield of production, meat or other desired products from the animals on thefarms of the employer that the employee oversees;8.2 Implementing new Cattle Software System;8.3 Numbering of new born calves and managing de-horn paste;8.4 De-horning weaners;8.5 Cattle Branding of heifers to be taken into herds;8.6 Managing pastures and assisting with fire breaks;8.7 Artificial insemination;8.8 PD Testing;8.9 Assisting with animal health programs (vaccinations) and keeping records thereof;8.10 Feeding and formulation of cattle leaks;8.11 Assisting with the feedlot management;8.12 Water crip repair and maintenance;8.13 Maintaining existing fencing;8.14 Full control of the working horses (health, feeding, upkeep, and maintain ofstable, saddles and tooms);8.15 Training of horsemen looking after different herds;8.16 Plan, monitor and secure a maximum yield in production against budgetparameters and the most feasible input cost for the employer at all times;8.17 Ensure that the general appearance of the farms where the employer'slivestock farming enterprise operates from, is upheld in a manner befitting acommercial cattle farming enterprise;8.18 Ensure that the employer's herd management complies with bestagricultural practices and all environmental and government regulations;8.19 Apply health and safety standards across the farm(s);8.20 Manage, train and mentor in herd management all the direct and indirectlabour utilised on the farms, including junior managers, permanent andtemporary labourers and contractors employed by the employer from timeto time;8.21 Maintain proper record keeping, such as in respect of livestock numbers,breeding patterns and production;8.22 Assist and advise the employer on purchases and capital expenditure inrespect of its herd;8.23 Liaise and work closely with clients, suppliers and other enterprisesassociated with the employer;8.24 All such tasks and duties as are reasonably and lawfully incidental to theabove.Desired Experience & QualificationExperience:Experience on a cattle farm5 to 7 years experience and at least 3 years experience in a farm manager roleExperience riding a horseQualification:BSc in Agriculture or a similar tertiary qualificationInterested?The suitable candidate will stay on the farm in Delmas.
