We are seeking a dedicated facilitator/companion who is passionate about neurodiversity and committed to working one-on-one with a 31-year-old autistic PDAer who loves nature, hiking, watching movies, Formula One, and animals. This role requires someone who genuinely cares about helping others and is prepared to provide long-term, consistent support. We are looking for someone who is kind, patient and compassionate, who can become a strong source of safe support, and who has the ability to set firm boundaries and advocate effectively. This position is based within a residential and sheltered-employment centre.
To be a "helping hand" to an individual with unique and specific challenges and support needs, giving him the necessary guidance and support to thrive. A special interest and passion to be a secure, long-term source of support to a neurodivergent individual is of the utmost importance.
The candidate will receive training from the NDC Facilitation Academy.
Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure he receives the necessary support.
Ensure predictability and consistency in his structure and routine.
Support his executive functioning, including planning, problem-solving, and reasoning.
Provide support and scaffolding for his regulation needs, reducing uncertainty and anxiety.
Understand his sensory needs and implement support strategies or adapt the environment to suit these needs.
Accompany him throughout the day in his daily functions and activities, including meal times, hiking, spending time with animals, and assisting with his work responsibilities in his designated workshop studio.
Guide him in daily living skills, including practical self-help, social, and life skills.
Requirements
Fluent in English - Essential.
Reliable car and valid driver's license - Desirable.
Previous experience in a supportive mentorship/facilitator role supporting neurodivergent adults - Desirable.
Previous experience in a type of helping profession - Desirable.
Familiarity and knowledge of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) - Essential.
Familiarity and knowledge of intellectual disabilities - Desirable.
Familiarity and knowledge of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) - Desirable.
Familiarity with a low arousal approach - Essential.
Knowledge of the unique support needs of a neurodivergent individual - Essential.
Strong verbal communication skills - Essential.
Strong executive functioning skills, i.e., ability to implement structure - Essential.
Interpersonal communication skills - Essential.
Relationship building skills - Essential.
Monday - Friday: 08:00 - 17:00.
Support and training from a multi-disciplinary team knowledgeable in the field of Neurodiversity.
