Facilitator for a 14-year-old neurodivergent boy in Constantia
We're seeking someone who is bright, dynamic, organised, and creative, with previous experience supporting neurodivergent teens. The role involves working closely with a bright, inquisitive 14-year-old who has a keen interest in origami and enjoys playing the piano, soccer, mountain biking, and flying trapeze.
Main Purpose of the Job:
To be a supportive and consistent presence for a young person with unique challenges and specific support needs, offering guidance that enables him to thrive. A genuine interest and passion for being a reliable, secure source of support is essential.
The successful candidate will receive training and support from the NDC Facilitation Academy Coordinator over a 4-6 week period while starting the position.
Job Objectives:
Build a trusting relationship with the learner.
Attend school with him to provide support and scaffolding within his immediate school environment.
Act as a bridge of communication between the teacher, learner, and parents.
Assist with breaking down tasks and chunking information as and when needed, and implementing movement/sensory breaks throughout the day when needed.
Facilitate his understanding and academic learning in social, structured, and unstructured domains, when needed.
Support his executive functioning around planning, organising, problem-solving, asking for help, etc.
Provide support and scaffolding to reduce uncertainty and potential anxiety, anticipating any possible triggers.
Create and design visual resources as and when needed.

Previous experience in a schooling environment or facilitation role - Essential
Previous experience working with neurodivergent adolescents - Essential
Previous experience in a teaching role - Desirable

Familiarity with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) - Essential
Familiarity with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) - Essential

Working Hours:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday: 08:00 - 14:45

Salary:
R13 000 - R15 000 per month (depending on experience and qualifications)
