Job Description


Responsibilities:

Strategy:

  • Help develop and implement strategy for the M&A business in Africa.
Business:
  • Originate and execute M&A advisory transactions to deliver against the Africa M&A team's budget.
  • Help deepen key client relationships and selectively acquire new relationships to assist in M&A origination efforts.
  • Leverage the Africa M&A platform to the promote the Bank, including cross selling other related banking products.
  • M&A Deal Origination:
  • Lead on origination of M&A mandates by leveraging on existing client relationships, contributing to idea generation and engaging in high quality pitches to the bank's clients.
  • Work in close coordination with senior bankers, client coverage, Industry coverage and other M&A teams to originate M&A transactions.
  • M&A Transaction Execution:
  • Work as deal team leader and ensure M&A transactions are marketed and executed appropriately.
  • Lead in the preparation of high-quality marketing and other materials such as Information Memorandums, Fairness Opinions and Board Papers.
  • Develop and control the overall process and timeline for the transactions in coordination with the clients and other advisers such as legal, accounting, tax, etc. to provide overall project management.
  • Advise the Client on valuation, transaction strategy and participate in negotiation of definitive documents, as required.
  • Client and Deal Team Management:
  • Communicate with senior management of clients and ensure that advisory services and quality of work meet the highest industry standards.
  • Efficiently manage several projects at once and work effectively as an individual and as a leader of various deal teams.
  • Effectively manage deal teams and encourage a culture of collaboration in the team.
Processes:
  • Understanding of and adherence to the standard procedures and policies required for the role.
  • Responsibility is the First line of defence - Deal Team members (execution) and M&A Management (supervisory).
  • Drive continuous improvement of the operational efficiency and effectiveness of processes to increase the consistency of global systems and processes.
People & Talent:
  • Lead by example and build the appropriate culture and values.
Risk Management:
  • Maintain a culture of risk management, control and governance, and ensure deal teams comply with the risk management processes in place.
  • Group and Business policies, procedures, standards and codes, including those governing all Risk types, compliance, Technology and Operations, Finance and Reputation.
  • Proactively advise and monitor all major risk issues. Where appropriate, direct remedial action and / or ensure adequate escalation and reporting to line manager, compliance and risk management.
Governance:
  • Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.
  • Take individual responsibility to ensure risk-taking is disciplined and focused.

Our Ideal Candidate:
  • Education: Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accountancy or equivalent
Professional Qualifications:
  • 10 years or more of relevant work experience in M&A or related business
  • Client connectivity and prior transaction experience in Africa
Key Skills:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and all levels in the organisation
  • Strong technical and quantitative skills; superior understanding of and ability to guide and evaluate financial analysis
  • Strong work ethic, with ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Sector expertise in Metals & Mining and/or Cleantech with prior experience with clients in Africa would be considered a plus
