The Africa Ethics and Compliance Officer is responsible for supporting with the implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of the Ethics and Compliance (E&C) program in South Africa. This includes the implementation of the Code of Conduct and key E&C controls, training, policy and procedure development, internal investigations and controls monitoring, third party vetting, controls auditing, risk management, and other tasks. They will report to the Head of Ethics and Compliance for UK and EMEA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and implementation of the regional E&C program.
  • Update and maintain corporate E&C policies to ensure they are properly communicated and respected.
  • Coordinate the development, support with the management (including continuous improvement) of regional governance processes, policies, systems, and key E&C controls. This includes the organizationxe2x80x99s gift, entertainment and hospitality registry, conflict of interest registry, and third party vetting processes.
  • Monitor compliance with key controls of the ethics and compliance program. This includes: (i) maintaining key metrics, and (ii) monitoring compliance with E&C procedures and processes.
  • Support anticorruption risk assessment activities and ongoing risk reviews.
  • Coordinate and roll-out ethics and compliance change management strategies and communications initiatives.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation and tracking of ethics and compliance training initiatives, including anti-corruption and fair competition training. Activities include (i) developing training content through webinars and live training sessions, (ii) delivering live training, and (iii) tracking and reporting training activities.
  • Support with the planning and conducting of internal investigations.
  • Support activities that mitigate third party risk, including (i) reviewing and updating third party due diligence policy and process, (ii) conducting due diligence reviews on third parties, (iii) and monitoring and reporting due diligence activities.
  • Conduct project-specific integrity reviews and provide risk-based recommendations/advice to the business on project risk.
  • Advise senior management on fulfilling their E&C responsibilities, especially their Tone at the Top engagements
  • Provide advice to senior management and employees on E&C matters, as required.
  • Coordinate with other functions where appropriate to connect the E&C activities with related activities and cycles in the business
  • Review, edit and lead the creation of high quality technical and professional deliverables, program documents and reports.
  • Manage internal and external regional Ethics and Compliance webpages.
  • Other duties, relevant to the position, may be assigned as required.
Qualifications
  • Either advanced Ethics & Compliance qualifications (degree in a field related to business ethics, CCEP or similar designation) or relevant business or legal qualifications (LLL and/or LLB)
  • Minimum 10 years' of professional experience
  • Experience developing and managing ethics and compliance for a company will be an asset
  • Experience working in Africa, or advising on operations in Africa, this is mandatory
  • Knowledge of anti-corruption, anti-fraud and competition legislation.
  • Strong ability to handle complex or risky compliance issues and investigations
  • Organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle fast-paced multitasking environment with time-sensitive workloads
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to persuade and lead people
  • Verbal and written communications skills to effectively communicate in a clear and concise manner to executives, auditors, lawyers, and non-lawyers
