About the Company
Envusa Energy is a licensed energy trader and a 50-50 joint venture between EDF Power Solutions and Anglo American, created to deliver world-class renewable energy solutions to private offtakers across Southern Africa.
With a vision to deliver 3-5 GW of renewable energy by 2030, Envusa is already advancing construction of its first 520 MW of wind and solar projects, due to supply electricity to customers in Q1 2026. The Role
The Head of Commercial and Sales will play a strategic and high-impact role in leading Envusa's customer strategy, commercial negotiations, and sales execution. Reporting directly to the CEO, this executive position involves scaling and developing the Commercial and Sales function, managing a team of specialists, and representing Envusa externally with customers, lenders, regulators, empowerment partners, and community stakeholders.
You will be responsible for shaping and executing the Commercial and Sales strategy, ensuring that Envusa secures long-term offtake agreements, develops innovative contracting and trading platforms, and maintains a strong market presence in a fast-evolving regulatory landscape.
Key Responsibilities include:
Leadership & Strategic Input

  • Provide functional advice/input to the Board and ExCo on commercial and sales matters
  • Act as a key member of the management team, driving value creation and business performance
  • Represent Envusa externally across commodity forums, government institutions, industry peers, and stakeholder platforms
Commercial & Sales Strategy
  • Develop, implement, and execute the Commercial and Sales strategy and plan, securing offtakers for Envusa's pipeline
  • Fully articulate Envusa's business model for customers, stakeholders, and partners
  • Design and implement a stakeholder engagement plan that accounts for market dynamics, risks, and opportunities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators such as NERSA, Eskom, SAWEM, WEPS, and other authorities
  • Drive the development of innovative contracting and product offers, aligned with shareholder standards and risk frameworks
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as Envusa's primary interface with customers, stakeholders, lenders, SPV BEE partners, and community partners
  • Manage third-party customer engagement in line with Envusa's resource plan
  • Incorporate customer requirements in the selection of empowerment and community partners
  • Negotiate and manage Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Energy Offtake Agreements (EOAs), and commercial contracts throughout construction and operation phases
Trading & Performance
  • Establish and manage Envusa's Trading Desk for SAWEM integration
  • Oversee obligations under offtake contracts and ensure trading compliance
  • Manage commercial planning, valuation, and contracting analysis, supporting project development and investment cases
  • Support Envusa in land lease and acquisition agreements, ensuring alignment with commercial goals
Governance, Compliance & Risk
  • Drive compliance across the Commercial and Sales team in responsible sourcing, anti-bribery, ethical conduct, tax, and financial practices
  • Ensure effective contract governance and controls are in place
  • Identify and manage functional risks across Envusa's business portfolio
  • Monitor and interpret the regulatory environment, ensuring Envusa adapts to new legislation and remains compliant
Team Leadership & Culture
  • Lead and grow a team of 2-10 commercial and sales specialists, fostering a purpose-led, inclusive, and high-performing culture
  • Align the team with Envusa's values of integrity, accountability, and diversity
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to ensure continuous growth and succession planning
Requirements
Graduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Management, or related field (essential)
Relevant postgraduate qualification, ideally an MBA (preferred)
15+ years' professional experience in Commercial and Sales functions, with at least 10 years in senior leadership roles
Strong background in capital-intensive industries (energy, mining, or extractives), with multi-site and multi-country operations
Proven track record in commercial and sales leadership, securing offtake contracts and delivering revenue growth
Deep experience in project finance and structured finance for infrastructure projects
Established relationships with Southern African commercial banks, lenders, and regulators
Strong knowledge of commercial offtake agreements in the energy industry (PPAs, EOAs, trading obligations)
Experience managing large teams in high-pressure environments
Excellent command of spoken and written English (French or other South African languages desirable)
