Wexe2x80x99re on the lookout for an experienced Environmental : Specialist to Maintain and manage all aspects relating to the companyxe2x80x99s Environmental Management systems and establish/maintain a harmonious relationship with the rest of the environment/ecology.
As a the Environmental : Specialist, you will be responsible for:

• Implement and maintain the environmental management system (based on the ISO 14001, 50001 and FSC standard).
• Maintain ISO certification.
• Develop draft, review and update Mill's environmental standards and procedures.
• Advise management on environmental matters, impacts and prognoses.
• Communicate with external stakeholders on environmental issues.
• Monitor and control cost.
• Procurement and maintenance of environmental services and equipment.
• Comply with all relevant SHEQ requirements of the job.
• Review and distribute internal reports, according to reporting schedules.
• Prepare and submit required external reports to relevant authorities, according to reporting schedules.
• Conduct environmental inspections and audits in and around the plants.
• Participate in investigations with SAPS and other government organisations.
• Review audit findings and ensure all findings are addressed and non-conformances closed out.
• Selection and compilation of environmental training courses and content for the mill.
• Design, implement and co-ordinate specific environmental projects throughout the Mill aimed at improving the environmental performance in the mill.
• Research and comment on relevant legislation proposals.
• Establish/maintain communication with environmental authorities, researchers and society.
• Consult with government organisations and consultants on legal requirements to operate.
• Keep abreast of environmental legal regulations and update relevant section heads on applicable legislation.
• Interpret and report on environmental legal compliance requirements.
• Enforce environmental legal compliance and facilitate monitoring and measurement thereof and advise on action planning.
• Identify, communicate and mitigate all environmental risks and hazards to the Mill and ensure behaviour change.
• Investigate internal and external environmental complaints and implement corrective actions.

What are we looking for?

• Bachelorxe2x80x99s (Environmental/Chemical Engineering) or equivalent, or a Post Graduate or Honours degree in a relevant environmental management field.
• A minimum of five (5) yearsxe2x80x99 experience in environmental management and implementation of compliance within the manufacturing industry.
• In-depth knowledge of environmental legislation and licencing processes.
• At least two (2) yearsxe2x80x99 experience in managing people.
• Strong computer literacy (MS Office Suite)
