Key Responsibilities:

As an ESG Specialist, you will:

  • Implement ESG policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Environmental and Social Safeguards Standards (ESSS) and international best practices.
  • Appraise and monitor transactions to identify and mitigate environmental, social, and governance risks.
  • Collaborate with partners to support long-term developmental impact and sustainability in development and financing interventions.
Expertise & Technical Competencies:

To excel in this role, you must have:
  • An advanced degree in Social and Environmental Sciences or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years' experience in project preparation, development outcome quantification, and risk mitigation.
  • At least 6 years of relevant experience in sustainable infrastructure, social infrastructure, or similar sectors.
  • Knowledge of international ESG principles, such as UN Principles for Responsible Investment, UN Global Compact, IFC Performance Standards, and more.
  • Familiarity with national environmental and social legislation and its application in Africa.
  • Understanding of corporate governance principles, especially in the public sector, municipal, and utilities context.
  • Innovative approaches to enhancing ESG sustainability in finance institutions.
  • Good knowledge of financial markets and ESG considerations in the finance and investment sector.
  • Proven ability to research, analyze, and synthesize diverse ESG-related data, especially climate-related information.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting ideas to clients and industry partners.
  • Willingness to travel for business purposes.
  • Understanding of ESG reporting requirements and frameworks like TCFD and Green House Gas Protocol.
  • Basic knowledge of carbon footprinting and carbon footprinting tools.
  • Awareness of climate risk integration into credit risk systems.
  • Understanding of gender mainstreaming and grievance redress mechanisms.
