Job Purpose




The Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to support the development and implementation of provincial climate change response adaptation programmes.

Minimum Requirements




An appropriate 3-year tertiary National Diploma/B-Degree in Environmental Management, Natural, Environmental or Social Sciences or related field; A valid driving license (Code B or higher).

Recommendation




Working knowledge and experience in the development and or the implementation of policies, legislation strategies, action plans, guidelines and environmental norms and standards (climate change); Climate change adaptation projects implementation; Understanding and experience of scientific research procedures and methodologies and report writing.

Key Performance Areas




Support the development and implementation of dedicated provincial and municipal climate change programmes, including: Adaptation programmes, awareness of mitigation programmes and related disaster risk reduction; Conduct research and assist with the development and / or mainstreaming of climate change policies; Develop presentation materials on climate change responses; Give presentations on climate change responses to government, civil society and business; Organise meetings, climate change awareness events, seminars and conferences; Maintain and expand a database on climate change projects; Support Climate Change funding applications.

Competencies



Knowledge in the following:

Development and or the implementation of policies, legislation strategies, action plans, guidelines and environmental norms and standards (climate change specific will be advantageous); Mainstreaming and capacity building climate change programmes.


Skills needed:

Written and verbal communication; Strategic thinking and passionate about environmental issues.

Remuneration



R343 842 per annum (OSD as prescribed)





Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD) are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
