A degree in Entomology, Agricultural Science, Crop Protection, or a related field is required.
A masters degree in Entomology or a similar advanced qualification is highly desirable.
At least 5-7 years of experience in crop protection, with a strong focus on entomology and pest and disease management within agriculture, preferably in citrus farming or related sectors. Proven experience in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) systems and the application of chemical and biological pest control methods.
Familiarity with current pest management technologies, including pest monitoring techniques and pesticide application equipment.
Experience working with farm management teams to implement pest and disease control programs that align with broader agricultural goals.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Strong knowledge of insect pest species that affect citrus crops and their management.
Ability to identify pest species and assess the severity of infestations in various stages of crop growth.
Experience in planning and executing pest control strategies, both chemical and biological. Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting to monitor pest populations and treatment effectiveness.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and manage a team.
Ability to think strategically and make data-driven decisions to optimize pest management practices.
Familiarity with farm equipment and machinery used for pest monitoring and pesticide application.
A valid South African drivers license (Code B or higher) is essential for travel between farm locations.
A Valid Tractor operator license.
