Joining us means joining a truly global community of more than 75 000 people dedicated to solving real-world mobility challenges and achieving international projects with sustainable local impact.At Alstom Rolling Stock South Africa (Pty) Ltd, we strive to deliver best in class locomotives to our customer for use of freight transportation on the railway corridors of South Africa.Alstom Rolling Stock South Africa (Pty) Ltd is looking for a Product Introduction Engineering Technician Team Leader for our Traxx Africa project based In Richards Bay.THE PURPOSE OF THE PRODUCT INTRODUCTION ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN TEAM LEADER ROLE IS TO:Be responsible for the safety and productivity of all Engineering Technicians, employees staffed on designated his/her site, as well as plant security. In addition, the Team Leader will be accountable for ensuring that activities (troubleshooting, Modifications, preventative maintenance) scheduled for completion are safely executed in a timely manner and within all quality parameter while ensuring availability & performance targets are achieved in line with Customer requirementsTHE MAIN RESPONSIBILITY WILL BE: * Effective performance of Troubleshooting, repairs, Field modifications and testing activities

  • Lead the team to Carry out Troubleshooting 23E locomotives , PI period as well as Pre-warranty & Commissioning (and Validation & Certification if applicable), including investigation and repair
  • Lead the team in performing Fleet check activities through TCMS data analysis and physical inspections
  • Reports & register any deviation (failure/event) in Failure Management data base including configuration data
  • Co-ordinates the helpdesk(standby) in Support of client operations.
  • Execute test & troubleshooting procedures to evaluate system performance and performs failure analysis on parts to be returned for repair
  • Ensure the team Adhere to all Fleet Maintenance and Product Introduction processes, procedures and relevant SOP's during the performance of work activity and presence on work sites.
  • Lead Implementation of Field Modifications when needed.
  • Support specific technical investigations fleet by Engineering ,Quality or internal/external Suppliers to improve reliability, availability and general performance of the 23E locomotive fleet
  • Identify and recommends preventative and corrective actions
  • Ensure good information flow about interventions & operations within Troubleshooting team to support shift transition, if needed
  • Provide Technical support and coach Maintainer when executing preventative maintenance.
  • To perform repairs due to vandalism/derailment upon the customer request on out of warranty
locomotives. * Lead the dynamic test of locomotives (new and repaired locomotives)
  • Co-ordinates contractors in facilitating repairs on site, if needed
  • Contribute to Return of Experience
  • Compliance and adherence to Environment, Health, Safety and Quality rules, procedures and policies at all times.
  • Ensure that all quality standards are always met
  • Ensure that the team members are supplied with PPE, including safety glasses, gloves and protective outer clothing.
  • Ensure the team compliance with depot/site procedures and instructions, from both the Alstom and Transnet.
  • Enforce Alstom quality standards when carryout locomotives repairs ,and the 5s practices.
  • Support the depot/site manager in ensuring all NCR's from site are captured and processed to the relevant parties.
  • Locomotive Configuration - Ensure serialized numbers are logged in MAXIMO / GSI
  • I-Forms - Attend to I-Forms; Raise product related Issues; Report Incidents and Complete Actions
  • In Compliance with all safety related training and ensure up to date of team members certifications as required i.e. working at heights
  • Collaborate with EHS and Quality teams to ensure we put safety first and maintain first class quality
  • ensure team members to uphold site safety, including reporting of any unsafe acts, process/procedure deviation.
  • Co-ordinate the usage of tools from control room and report tools status(calibrations, defects) to the depot/site manager.
  • Leadership and Data management
  • Being a leadership resource to team members, providing knowledge, experience, motivation, support and
advice. * Manage daily team activities and team briefings.
  • To train new members of the team.
  • Ensure that team reports of the work done are well captured on SES/GSI
  • Ensure all documentation and procedures are at the correct revision and signed off in full when completed.
  • Ensure that test documentation are filled out and placed in data file
  • Ensure that routine testing and type testing documents are completed
  • Ensure comprehensive and accurate failure reporting are done
  • Ensure proper record keeping
  • Model the AIR values of the Company and always act ethically and compliant
  • Continually model Alstoms AIR values
  • Follow through to ensure that personal quality and productivity standards are consistently and accurately maintained
  • Make an effort to stay relevant and up-to-date with legislation, new developments, product knowledge, policies and procedures etc

THE PREFERRED CANDIDATE WILL MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
  • N.Diploma or B.Tech Engineer (Electrical / Electromechanical)
  • Minimum 5 years working experience (at this level) in a electrical/electronic/pneumatic testing environment
  • Environment, Health and Safety knowledge/exposure
  • Hands on Test & Commissioning, fault finding & repair experience
  • Proven track record of Software experience on 23E locomotive
  • Extensive knowledge and hands on experience of the 23E to be able to supply expert advice, guide and support the team.
  • Have a proven track record that shows he can identify and fix faults (Electrical, Mechanical, and pneumatic)
  • Natural willingness to help and assist others to succeed
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and schematics
  • Experience in Industrial activities related to Electrical, Control, onboard communications & network systems within process industry, railways or factory automation
  • Can work and has worked with all the software tools related to the 23E and can demonstrate proficiency
