Management Level 2: TEAM LEAD

Short Role description:

Engineering Team Lead directly manage a team of engineering and design personnel to achieve revenue, gross margin, customer satisfaction index targets and other business objectives. Manages a multi-disciplined team to deliver projects on time and within budget. Lead your team with respect to their business and personal development goals. Interfacing with various business units, project managers, team leads, lead engineers, sales, proposals, and specialists within the Rockwell organization will be required. Additionally, this position requires team resource planning such as assigning direct reports to projects, assessing staffing & utilization levels among other duties. The successful candidatexe2x80x99s focus area will be SSB projects.

Reports to Engineering Manager, SSB South Africa

Essential Functions:

Functional

  • Oversees customer's requirements and the development of system solution and its applicable control configuration / architecture
  • Develops and executes industry / application team plan
  • Understands different project scopes and knows when a change request is required
  • Actively contributes to the development of business team strategic plan
  • Coordinates resources between different teams and projects
Leadership
  • Oversees process improvement activities within relevant business scope
  • Takes ownership of day-to-day operations and drives problems toward resolution
  • Ensures conformance of all team activities to proper safety standards
  • Perform PADR Sessions with direct reports.
  • Use Workday to effectively manage your teamsxe2x80x99 Business and Personal Goals, incorporating the WPADR document as established in 2020.
  • You will be required to have Regular interaction with your direct reports, keeping them accountable for business and personal goals.
Interpersonal
  • Responsible for resource planning within your team
  • Works with direct reports to address training gaps and development actions
  • Fosters open communication with team members to promote positive work environment
  • Define and drive Business and Development goals with and for direct reports
  • Utilize RA Suitability Model concepts to develop your direct reports
  • Implement and Drive 70:20:10 plan with your direct reports
  • Interfacing with various Engineers to drive technical solutions
Business
  • Demonstrates business acumen with the ability to lead teams
  • Responsible for all performance aspects related to assigned business segment
  • Supports and helps implement business wide strategies
  • Drive 3rd Party Billable Utilization to achieve Annual Operating Plan Targets
  • Manage Utilization targets within your team
Qualifications:

Minimum
  • Bachelorxe2x80x99s degree in engineering discipline
  • 2-3 yearsxe2x80x99 experience as a Level 3 System Design Engineer or
  • 2-3 yearsxe2x80x99 experience as a Level 3 Specialist Engineer or
  • 2-3 yearsxe2x80x99 experience as a Level 3 Lead Engineer or
  • 2-3 yearsxe2x80x99 experience as a Level 4 Senior Engineer
  • Extensive experience with control systems applications
  • Proven success at simultaneously managing multiple customer projects
  • Extensive experience with direct customer contact and suppliers
Desired
  • Conversant with MS Office software products Excel, Access, Word, Project, Outlook, etc
  • Conversant with Rockwell Automation proprietary software packages
  • Detailed understanding of PlantPax Solutions including the xe2x80x9cMining Solutionxe2x80x9d
Principal duties and responsibilities:

Overview
  • Must be able to manage a team of direct reports effectively, achieving team, business, and individual goals
  • Significant experience in conducting system field start-up activities.
  • Typically possesses broad application/technical knowledge relevant to assigned business team.

  • Must be able and willing to travel and work at customer sites, including industrial plants, ships, etc., which may require climbing, working in confined spaces and other unusual work environments.

Functional
  • Direct reportsxe2x80x99 to be RA and customer site SHEQ compliant, by interfacing with the RA SHEQ representatives and project managers as well as customers.
  • Attend QGR and Project review sessions when required
  • Use eRS schedule to accurately forecast your teamxe2x80x99s billable and non-billable activities. Provide Engineering Manager with weekly feedback.
  • Timeous IFS and Workday Interfacing/bookings by yourself and your direct reports
  • Direct reportsxe2x80x99 accurate time keeping on site, on paper and in IFS
  • Direct reportsxe2x80x99 PJSA entries must be done as per RA company and customer site policies
  • Provides updates to Engineering Manager pertaining to status of activities, KPIxe2x80x99s.
  • Develops operations-related plans, budgets, policies, and procedures in accordance with company policies and requirements.
  • Drives project review process and gives guidance on project related matters.
  • Drives professional and personal development of team.
  • Drives performance management criteria for team.
  • Interact with all levels of organization on business related KPIxe2x80x99s and issues.
  • Works with other senior leadership to develop strategic plans and objectives.
  • Drive the operations in line with specific business strategic initiatives
  • Ensure engineering standards and quality goals are implemented and followed.
  • Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company.
  • Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.
  • Deliver projects that meet the quality requirements of the customer and the business unit
Interpersonal
  • Will serve as the primary technical and resource related interface with the customer for assigned projects
  • Supports an environment conducive to successful teamwork
  • Drives interaction between all RA business units with a view to growing cooperation between units, as part of the RA Life Cycle initiatives.
  • Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers. Interactions frequently involve special skills, such as negotiating with customers or management or attempting to influence senior level leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization.
  • Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
  • Support Team Leads & Lead Engineers by utilizing your direct reports across various SSB Teams & Projects and vice versa.
  • Provide feedback to other Team Leads should their direct reports work with you or your team on various projects
Leadership
  • Will lead a team comprising of engineering staff of various levels of experience and responsibilities.
  • Coach direct reports on technical and interpersonal skills (focused on RA suitability model)
  • Develops and leads team in strategic direction as identified together with senior management.
  • Acts as advisor to team and may become actively involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems.
  • Perform Planned Task Observations on direct reports on an annual basis.
  • Take ownership, provide direction, and resolve complex project related activities with the help of your team.
  • Take lead on direct report related matters and address complex matters with HR and Engineering manager
  • Plan and be pro-active when engaging with your team and lead them to achieve business, personal and team goals.
Business
  • Will lead technical execution of complex projects
  • Drive and achieve business priorities and annual KPIxe2x80x99s.
  • Maintain Business Utilization Target for yourself and your team
  • Drive Business Revenue Recovery Target within your team
  • Responsible for reviewing and guidance of team to ensure that technical requirements, project schedule, engineering hours budgets and customer satisfaction targets are met.
  • Builds partnerships on a technical level with key customers and strategic partners.
  • Must be commercially aware of the impact on the business when selecting and developing the specific projects designs

  • Will present and develop technical aspects of sales proposals to customers.
  • Responsible for following all applicable corporate, company, governmental and regulatory policies as well as procedures as appropriate for this position.
  • Expected to deliver several sales opportunities and leads through direct involvement with customers, during a project and post implementation
  • Interface with Proposals Team to provide bill of material and scope of work specifications for various proposals
  • Interface with Project Managers to ensure that projects are delivered within the defined scope of deliverables and specific timelines.
